World Editions / Galaxy Publications, 1951-76. Very Good. Expansive collection of over 100 digest magazines, covering 20 years of publishing and artwork in the realms of science-fiction, fantasy, mystery, and horror. From the estate of Andrew J. Offutt, noted science-fiction, fantasy, and underground erotica writer, who was a regular reader and collector of related publications. He was 15 in 1951. Galaxy was an American digest (5.5 x 7 inches, ~144pp.) magazine devoted to the genres, extraterrestrials, time travel, etc., and ran for 3 decades, 1950-80. By 1956, the cover art shrank as credit margins grew, more author and titles appeared as each gained relative popularity, and buy 1961 attained national distribution by Kable News. Frederik Pohl was a longtime editor, and after he left the title fell of the charts. A top-selling precedent in the field,… Read more

Description:
Dulce Press, 1972. Fine. First Edition, octavo, 56pp, pink endpapers. SIGNED by Barr in 1993 on the first blank verso: "To You Toni / Enjoyed you and Tim / XOXO Candy Barr / April 8, 93." Candy aka Juanita Slusher (later Phillips), notable for having been one of the first adult film stars, wrote while in prison for charges of marijuana possession, poems reflecting the confusion & faith of a prison inmate, a dichotomous split that would plague Barr until her death in 2005. She's a member of the Hall of Fame at the Exotic World Burlesque Museum, & one of the most appealing of the best of burlesque. Her wild lush dimensions, hip-savvy performances exude sensuality, passion, aggression, & much of that translates to the work, wrapped neatly in the title itself. Near Fine, light foxing & rubbing, lacking dust jacket. Steve Sullivan, "Glamour Girls: The Illustrated Encyclopedia," #22, 1999.

Description:
Girl Watcher / Bonanza Publishing, 1959. Very Good. Two vintage non-nude pin-up magazines intended as humorous "guides to girl watching," a controversial title in that its entries on watching, stalking, and "collecting" girls from the neighborhood have endured some criticism on questionably morality. Most of the articles about girl watching have little serious intent with regard to actual crimes against women, and the intro blurb states: "Dedicated to all Serious Scholars and Connoisseurs of Beautiful Women." Being that much of the content is the work of photographer Earl Leaf, it can be presumed that "girl watching" simply means capturing women candidly or professionally on camera as a professional photographer with professional models. Sports, humor (especially the first issue), fiction. Only a handful of issues produced (at least 2), with ties to other glamour photography magazines, including those from Dingbat Press. Arguably a high-point of men's magazine collecting, w/ the series second issue… Read more

Description:
Greenleaf Classics, 1993. Very Good. Four vintage adult paperbacks, published by William Hamling. One of many imprints, but authorship of later issues is questionable. Early in Greenleaf writers found popularity, including William Knoles, Donald E. Westlake, Lawrence Block, Andrew J. Offutt, & John Jakes. Cover art was primarily by Robert Bonfils, Macauley, & a few others. Four-letter words did not appear until the late 1960s. This series was a short run, maybe 20, w/ photo wrapper, sex ads inside. Very Good Plus overall. The Hottest Wife (GCP4001, 1993, Don Scott, reprints 1980 edition), The Wildest Wife (GCP4004, 1993, Jeff Collins, reprints 1980 edition), The Horny Swappers (GCP4006, 1993, Harry Stevens, reprints 1980 edition, backwoods), Nurse in Heat (GCP4007, 1993, Ray Todd, reprints 1980 edition).
