Southampton Place, 1 March 1834. 2 pp. 9 x 7½ inches, in good condition, with the integral address leaf. William Finden (1787-1852), engraver, and younger brother, Edward Francis Finden (17911857), became known for the their great series of steel engravings such as Finden's Landscape Illustrations to the Life and Works of Byron (1832), popular works such as Finden's Gallery of the Graces (18324), and their most ambitious production, the folio-size Royal Gallery of British Art (183840).

Her most famous novel, A Superfluous Woman, was published in 1894. This was the first of Brooke's "New Woman" novels. Brooke saw this novel and The Woman Who Did as important in trying to resolve the "Sex Question" which she thought dominated debate in the 1880s and 1890s.

Johan Eliza de Vrij (1813-1898), pharmacologist and quinologist, worked first as a pharmacist in Rotterdam from 1832, and then as a chemist in plant experiments in Java, relating particularly to the extraction of medical compounds from plants, the preparation of quinine compounds, etc. Some of his reports are in the India Office Library.

I painted a picture of an old Man Dressing, it was exhibited in 1810 and sold to Lord Elchin, it passed to several hands, at last it came into the hands of ONeale in London, who sold it to Napier, Engineer Glasgow, for £315 and the picture is now engraving in London, my name was taken out and Wilkies put in. I mean to claim the copy right. This is quite public.
