Buxtehude,: [no imprint],, 1753. 10, [ii, blank] pp. 8vo (13,5 x 19,5 cm.). Contemporary grey wrappers, uncut. Preserved in a recent marbled slipcae, gilt lettered red morocco label on front side. Only one copy known!. A collection of 15 occasional verses published during Maupertuis period in Berlin. We have been unable to establish the author of these verses. At the recto of the title page we find "Soit imprimé. P.L.M. de Maupertuis", the last verses is signed "P.L.M. v. Maupertuis". Anyhow, a most curious item of great rarity, a copy with ample margins, and the bookplate of "G.H". PLEASE NOTE that this is not and 1753 imprint, but a reprint (early 20th century) of the only copy known and manupulated that it looks a real 18th century imprint with the usual age marks. A fine exemple of BOOK FORGERY.

Contemporary half dark brown calf, spines gilt lettered and numbered on black and red morocco labels .-- (spines & joints partly rubbed; front joint of volume 2 weak and bottom partly damaged; corners slightly bumped; library stamps on half-title and title-page). ¶ Een goed bruikbaar geografisch-historisch woordenboek.

Leipzig,: bey Weidmanns Erben und Reich,, 1785.. [xxii], 248, [ii] pp. Small 8vo (11 x 17,5 cm.). Contemporary 3/4 calf, spine with 5 raised bands, spine gilt lettered on morocco label. Gilt supralibros (19th century?) on both sides. mardbled end-papers. With three folded engraved plates, one signed J.G. Schmidt. ¶ Very rare, only a few copies known. A remarkable clean inner copy for a German book of that epoque, and of a interesting provenance (Regiments-Bibliothek v. Sacken & Bibliothek des Regiments Prinz Johann). --(Top of spine slightly worn; outer edges of sides partly slightly rubbed; spine label with some slight loss ; stamp on title, stamp on inner end-paper: "Heeres-Lehrschmiede").

Original publisher's cloth (discoloured, slightly stained, corners & top and botttom of spine rubbed). ¶ Very rare. First Englished translation of the first national German pharmacopoeia (Berlin, Decker, 1872). "In view of the already large, and rapidly increasing German population, including many physicians, the work, it is hoped will be acceptable to many pharmacists, who are frequently called upon for medicines by the German names, or by the Latin terms use in Germany" (from the preface). --(Apart from a small clear stain on the title-page, a nice clean inner copy).

Richly illustrated with over 770 plates and illustrations, of which ca. 90 in colour. Vol. I: Von der Antike bis um 1600 ; vol. II: Von 1600 bis zur Gegenwart. One of the best modern work on the history of anatomical illustrations since the work of Choulant (1852; 1920; 1945). While in no way superseding the revised editions of Choulant's classic, this work provides a great deal of stockitional material, particularly on artªhistorical research which has taken place during the past few decades. Contemporary half brown morocco (hingles reinforced), spine with 4 raised bands, gilt lettered. ** A classic on the subject. Poggendorff studied at the University of Berlin and spent his entire teaching career there. Invented a galvanoscope (multiplier), independently of Schweigger; it was used by Gauss in measuring magnetism. He was the author of an indispensable biographical-bibliographical reference work in the history of the exact sciences that is now called simply "Poggendorff".

With a coloured frontispiece and numerous illustrations. ¶ Printed in 1100 copies. Anice pictorial history of apiculture, concluded by a brief bibliography and ample indexes.

Amsterdam,: D.B. Centen,, 1891.. xv, [ii], 448 pp. 8vo (16,5 x 24,5 cm.). Original 3/4 cloth, richly gilt decorated. ¶ The original edition of the standard history of Dutch pharmacy. A very nice copy in the scarce original Art-Nouveau (Jungendstill) binding.-- (Corners a triffle rubbed).

Scranton,: Munyon,, (n.d. ca. 1910).. 32 pp. 12mo (11,5 x 15,3 cm.). Original coloured printed wrappers. With some illustrations & decorations. ¶ A nice copy. Dr. Munyon sold his nostrums and patent medicines (i.a. Paw-Paw pills & kidney cure) in a "religious" manner. All of his advertisements show his grim visage, lifted arm, and elevated finger. His texts seem to come right out of the Bible. The medicines provided by Munyons Homeopathic Home Remedy Company consist chiefly of sugar and alcohol. (Philadelphia,, n..d. ca. 1895). Chromolithograph (10 x 12 cm.). A nice coloured trading card showing a Gipsy fortune-teller and a boy & girl, a cat and a owl. On the verso the advertisments for some of Jayne's products, i.a. the "Jayne's Expectorant". The latter nostrum have caused at least the death of one child (see A. Cramp I, 455). Most of Jayne's products were seriously habit-forming as they contain alcohol, opium and its derivates, notably heroin and cocain. The card was printed by Major, Knapp & Co of New York.-(Text very slightly stained, but a good copy a a rare trading card).
