Featuring 68 fables told in rhyming verse, these satirical pieces take aim at the politics and society of Gay's time yet the targets and themes remain relevant today. Quarter leather with marbled boards. 32mo. (130x85mm) 155pp. With engraved frontispiece by Richard Westall. Boards are worn and bumped. Leather spine is rubbed. Occasional light foxing within. Previous owner's signature to rear endpaper. Title page a little slack but otherwise tightly bound. Fair/good.

Faraday had bequeathed his Diaries to the Royal Institution and from 1932-6 they released this first printing. A fascinating record of the work of one of the great experimentalists. Under the editorial supervision of Thomas Martin with a foreword by William Bragg, it contains all his notes, observations and figures as well facsimiles of his own sketches that pepper the margins. Also included are a number of b/w plates that show excerpts from his hand-written diary, his equipment (his large electromagnet), his larger diagrams or portraits of Faraday himself. Large 8vo.
