Pages are generally clean; a faded name is written with small letters in an early hand on the title page (upper corner); minor chipping to outer edge of title. All edges gilt. Richard Bentley (1662-1742) English scholar and literary critic. He was made keeper of the Royal Libraries and was later appointed Master of Trinity College, Cambridge. Endpapers are lightly age toned. The half-title (verso) and the title page (recto) contain some miniscule spots of foxing. Interior pages show slight toning towards the outer edges. Pages X, and 1 are well tanned, as if someone had once used a piece of newspaper as a placeholder. Charles Proteus Steinmetz (1865-1923) was a German-American electrical engineer and a professor at Union College in New York. His ideas about alternating current electrical systems led to major technological advancements in American electrical engineering.

A near fine copy. Claude Farrere (1876-1957) French novelist. Many of his works were set in exotic locations. His Fumee d' Opium (first published in 1904) is an interwoven collection of stories which focus on the opium dens and brothels of Vietnam or Cochin China during the 1930's. The book appeared in English under the title Black Opium. This edition contains illustrations by Jean Bouchaud.

Vash Young was a popular motivational speaker and an author during the Great Depression. His paternal great grandfather was a brother of Brigham Young [Wiki].Vash’s first book "A fortune to share" (first printed in August, 1931) became a best-seller in its day.
