Early ownership ticket on inside front cover – "D.F. Lesne, Maitre en Chirurgie, rue S. Benoit." First French translations from the German of Christian Furchtegott Gellert's fables. Some of John Gay's fables are also translated. The fables are preceded by Boulenger de Rivery's essay "Discours sur la literature allemande" (pp. lxvii) which discusses the Fables of Gellert, Gay and Fontaine. [Cohen-De Ricci, p. 182; Lewine, p. 79; Cioranescu 13457; Barbier II, p. 414].
