Published in the New-York Daily Tribune, Feb. 8, 1862. The New York Daily tribune published 17 maps as a supplement to its daily paper issued on July 30, 1861 (See LC Civil War Maps no. 6.2). These two maps were published 6 months later. Woocut engraving. The Battle at Fort Henry was considered the first significant Union victory during the Civil War under Ulysses S. Grant and the first to use ironclad gunboats.The Peabody-Essex cites this map being "Extracted from New-York semi-weekly tribune, Friday, January 24, 1862"

Abraham Ortelius (1527-1598) was a prominent Flemish cartographer who produced the first world atlas "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum" in 1570. This map was based on an earlier manuscript map by Sibrandus Leo whose name is featured in the title.
