It displays an exciting blend of historical documents that are also aesthetically pleasing, revealing both the west that Haynes witnessed and his growth as an artist with the camera." Frank Jay Haynes (1853-1921) was employed by the Northern Pacific RR in 1875 to take pictures along their route from Minnesota to the West Coast for advertising and promotional purposes. From 1884 through 1915 Haynes operated a lucrative service industry in Yellowstone National Park making and selling souvenir photographs, taking pictures of tour parties, and publishing graphic souvenirs. F. Jay Haynes was known as the "Official Park Photographer.

Street guide for Salt Lake that begins with a brief list of traffic laws for the city, which is followed by 57 pages that lists every street (alphabetically) and offers coordinates for each. The remainder of this guide has sections for Apartments, Hotels, Public Buildings and Halls, Colleges and Schools, Bridges over the Jordan River, Cemeteries, Churches, Automobile Dealers, Clubs, Fire Stations, Hospitals, Parks, Airports, Libraries, Theaters, Bus stations, Railroad Stations, and Streetcar Stations. Each section is arranged alphabetically with coordinates given for each. Local advertisement on the covers and sporadically throughout. Rare in this nice condition.

"The critical problem arising from Russian expansion across Asia was that of supplying the outermost reaches with food. Throughout the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries the search for sables drew Russian trappers and traders ever eastward - to reach the Pacific Ocean in 1639; as they exhausted the sources of sables they turned in the eighteenth century to seeking the sea otters of the Pacific and Alaska. San Francisco: Matson Navigation Lines, 1959. Bifolium [30.5 cm x 45.5 cm] printed in full-color. Nice condition. Near fine. Dinner menu from the S.S. Matsonia, while it was enroute from San Francisco to Honolulu on July 7, 1959, that features nice cover art by Louis Macouillard. The S.S. Matsonia was one of the four luxury liners in Matson's 'White Fleet', which were designed by William Francis Gibbs and also included SS Malolo, SS Mariposa and SS Lurline. Matsonia was identical to Mariposa and very similar to Lurline. Louis Macouillard (1913-1987) was an acclaimed watercolorist, known for his marine and travel themed work. He was a graduate of the Art Students League of New York and the California Guild of Arts and Crafts. "You hear a kindly, fuzzy haired Fijian roar with laughter as he plays a sharp game of cricket. And you find it hard to believe that his grandfather was a fierce barbarian. You see in Suva a modern capitol of British Oceania.

A bright copy of Abbey's third published book. This protagonist of this work, John Vogelin, is a New Mexico rancher, whose land is being condemned to construct an Air Force base. This work visits familiar Abbey themes of the lone man standing against power and a technological future. Edward Abbey (1927-1989) was a celebrated author, essayist, conservationist, noted pain-in-the-ass, and in many ways the father (or at the very least, uncle) of the modern environmental movements.

A history of staging in the Sierras, including fast trips and fast times of stage, pony express and buckboard, as well as perilous trips in snow and storm, with a sketch of Hank Monk and other old-time famous drivers on the Placerville and Henness Pass routes, gold mining in California in the days of '49 with incidents and adventure. 1930. Hand colored view [16.5 cm x 26.5 cm] Better than very good. Nice hand-colored image likely from T. J. Hileman (1882 - 1945), who for decades photographed in Montana (primarily Flathead Lake and Glacier National Park), originally for the Great Northern Railway. In 1926, Hileman opened photo studios in Glacier Park Lodge and for many years he produced and sold countless photographs of the area.

Exceptionally nice copy of this Honolulu view book. Work opens with a three-page introduction which is followed by 29 black and white views of some of the floats and participants of the sixth annual Floral Parade. All views are credited to R.W. Perkins. "February's Floral Festival. Honolulu's Floral Parade, which comes with every Washington's Birthday, was presented with unusual éclat this year, the splendor of the pageant, the number of participants and the length of the column excelling all previous features of this annual gala spectacle.

Colorado Springs, CO, 1960. Single sheet [23 cm x 40 cm] printed on both sides and folding to pamphlet size [23 cm x 10 cm] folds as issued. About very good. One side prints a map and description of the Flying W's chuck wagon suppers and original show. The reverse prints a description of the ranch and the amenities offered. "Flying W. Ranch is a working cattle and horse ranch. During the summer we invite you to come on out and visit our Indian Village, Art Gallery, old blacksmith shop, dry goods store, three-story Indian pueblo. Leather shop, mine tunnel, eat supper with us, and watch our famous stage show. By the time the stories and singin' start, you'll be sure it is the highlight of your trip to Colorado.

Abbey considered this novel his "fat masterpiece." This was the last novel published in Abbey's lifetime. Illustrated work for the prospective tourist aboard the Colorado Midland Railway, with a brief description and information on Colorado, that is followed by information on the towns and areas the Midland passes through. (Manitou, Ute Pass, Glenwood, Grand Junction, etc.). The Colorado section is followed by a short section on Utah, with descriptions of Ogden and Salt Lake City. "Now, the Midland's silver meshes, strung with cities like bright beads; Cripple Creek her gold fields offers, where the poorest man succeeds, - Mines and miners, farms and farmers, sheep and cattle on the plains; in the home, the ranche, the smelter, life is full and plenty reigns.." - Virginia Donaghe McClurg (from the Preface).

Inscribed on the limitation page by the author: To Dr. and Mrs. J.B Bearnson from the Warrums. Noble Warrum." Julius Bearnson was a professor of Economics at the University of Utah. Margaret "Mrs." Bearnson also taught at the University of Utah, and was a Utah state legislator.
