A historical romance about the early Christian church, the book had a very wide circulation and was translated into ten languages.

He is known above all for his Fables, which provided a model for subsequent fabulists across Europe and numerous alternative versions in France, and in French regional languages.

It also stresses its importance to the trade and security of her other American colonies. Written by William Shirley and William Mildmay who were the English commissioners appointed after the Treaty of Aix-La-Chapelle of 1748 to negotiate the dispute with France over the boundaries of Acadie. The work was designed to counter the French memorials and to respond specifically to a certain pamphlet written by Mathieu Francois Pidansat de Marobert, `Discussion Sommaire'.
