Description:
New York: Aladdin, 2007. Later printing. Paperback. New. Brandon Dorman. 384pp. Octavo [19.5 cm] Illustrated wraps. For centuries mystical creatures of all description were gathered into a hidden refuge called Fablehaven to prevent their extinction. The sanctuary survives today as one of the last strongholds of true magic. Enchanting? Absolutely. Exciting? You bet. Safe? Well, actually, quite the opposite. Kendra and her brother, Seth, have no idea that their grandfather is the current caretaker of Fablehaven. Inside the gated woods, ancient laws keep relative order among greedy trolls, mischievous satyrs, plotting witches, spiteful imps, and jealous fairies. However, when the rules get broken—Seth is a bit too curious and reckless for his own good—powerful forces of evil are unleashed, and Kendra and her brother face the greatest challenge of their lives. To save their family, Fablehaven, and perhaps even the world, Kendra and Seth must find the courage to do what they fear most.

Salt Lake City, UT: Tanner Trust Fund and J. Willard Marriott Library, 2022. First edition. Hardcover. New/New. 246pp. Octavo [23.5 cm] Gray cloth over boards. Fact, Fiction, and Polygamy rescues an exciting true tale of international intrigue from 150 years of neglect. It tells of the travails of Henrietta Polydore, a young Anglo-Italian girl spirited out of an English Catholic convent school in 1854 and bundled across the Atlantic, the Great Plains, and the Rocky Mountains by her Mormon-convert mother and aunt to live in Salt Lake City under an alias in the polygamous household of a Latter-day Saint leader with five wives and twenty children. Midway through Henrietta's secret sojourn in the City of the Saints, she was caught up in the Utah War of 1857-1858, President Buchanan's attempt to suppress a perceived Mormon rebellion with nearly one-third of the U.S. Army. MacKinnon and Alford present Henrietta's story through their editing for twenty-first-century readers of a "lost" non-fiction novel… Read More
