London: Nonesuch Press, various. Four early Nonesuch prospectuses, all from the 1920's. Includes the first Prospectus issued by the Press in 1923, The First List of Fine Books in Limited Editions to be Published by the Nonesuch Press; Prospectus and Retrospectus of the Books Published by the Nonesuch Press 1923-1925 in Limited and Ordinary Editions; Nonesuch Books for Christmas 1925 for the Spring 1926; and Bodkin Permitting Being the Prospectus and Retrospectus for 1929 of the Nonesuch Press. The first prospectus is rare; this copy is lightly foxed. The second item is oversized, in fine condition with slight sunning along the lower edge. The third is near fine in paper covered boards with title and ornament in gold and blind tooling, slight bumping of corners and slight offsetting from the inside covers. The fourth is bound in marbled paper wrappers with title label glued to the front cover, and includes a statement that Random House is the exclusive US distributor for Nonesuch limited editions.… Read More

Description:
A collection consisting of four novels and reminiscences about Powell's career and his writing. Powell was a renowned expert in bibliographical matters and in addition to his writing held important posts at academic libraries. He possessed the rare gift of writing about books and personalities with a great deal of feeling and affection. Whole generations of book collectors, librarians, and book sellers came to admire his work and owe their inspiration to him.

Designed by Ward Ritchie for the Capra Press. One hundred copies were quarter bound in leather with patterned paper covered boards enclosed in a cloth covered slip case. 436 pages. 9 1/4 x 6 1/4 inches. The book is signed by Powell. Number 9 of 100 copies. Fine.
