BINDING/CONDITION: green cloth with gilt text; lightly rubbed at the spine ends, otherwise a Very Good+ book, with a Good+ dust jacket.. 8vo (9.25 inches tall) . Index. Description: Includes a frontis and seven additional black and white plates (four are maps), plus one additional map within the text. Originally published in 1931 by Longman's Green and Co; this is billed by the publisher as being the ''New Edition July, 1936''; this copy is a second printing of the new edition. To the best of my knowledge, there are no changes from the Longman's Green edition, this might more accurately be termed a reprint edition, rather than ''New'' edition. ''Using much new source material, often modifying the hitherto accepted accounts, the author has produced a volume rich in bibliography, that is still a very readable narrative.''

Notes, bibliography, index. Description: The publisher's blurb reads: ''No one, especially Einstein himself, denies Einstein's Jewish heritage, but many are uncomfortable saying that he was being a Jew while he was at his desk working. To understand what 'Jewish' means for Einstein's work, Gimbel first explores the many definitions of 'Jewish' and asks whether there are elements of Talmudic thinking apparent in Einstein's theory of relativity. He applies this line of inquiry to other scientists, including Isaac Newton, Rene Descartes, Sigmund Freud, and Emile Durkheim, to consider whether their specific religious beliefs or backgrounds manifested in their scientific endeavors. Einstein's Jewish Science intertwines science, history, philosophy, theology and politics in fresh and fascinating ways to… Read more

We also learn of Einstein's views on religion and philosophy, his marital problems, and his contacts with personalities ranging from John D Rockefeller to Charlie Chaplin to Freud to Ghandi.
