John Murray. First edition published by John Murray in 1930. A very good or better copy without the dustwrapper. The boards are in excellent shape with only the odd very light mark. The book is square and binding tight. There are no bookplates and no ink. The upper text block has some foxing marks and the first few pages occasionally so. Overall a nice copy and better than is usually found.  Arthur Conan Doyles last published book in his lifetime. It is a collection of essays and articles that had been originally published elsewhere such as The Strand and Daily Express, including an essay on Houdini.   . Very Good. The wrapper is very clean and bright with only very minimal rubbing to the corner and spine ends. It is not price clipped. The book is very presentable with no issues. There is no foxing or handling wear. Overall a near fine copy.  The booker prize winning author's first novel. It is the story of a young woman whose sane, structured, consumer-oriented world starts to slip out of focus. Following her engagement, Marian feels her body and her self are becoming separated. As Marian begins endowing food with human qualities that cause her to identify with it, she finds herself unable to eat, repelled by metaphorical cannibalism.. . Near Fine. Eyre & Spottiswoode. First edition published by Eyre & Spottiswoode in 1969. This copy is rare as it is near fine. The spine of the jacket is a shade faded and there are a couple of creases on the lower inside flap and a crease to the upper inside flap. There are tiny amounts of wear to the odd corner. Otherwise the jacket is in fantastic condition. This is the first state jacket with the earliest portrait of the author on the back panel. The book is also excellent with no foxing, marks or ink. Bernice Ruben's booker prize winning novel from 1969. A rarity to  find as a first edition and in this sort of condition.  . Near Fine. Methuen. First edition published by Methuen in 1915. This copy is scarce because it is in very near fine condition. It is a superb copy. The boards have very little wear at all. The spine is a shade faded. The book is square with no bumps or wear at all. The pages are clean and without marks. It is a high grade book.  Ransome's first book and his only work of fiction published outside of the Swallows and Amazons series. It is particularly rare to find in first print, with only 1200 printed of which around 300 were ruined. Making this very near fine copy a remarkable survivor. A supernatural novel involving an ancient evil and the quest for eternal life. Lovecraft described the book as "attaining some darkly excellent effects". A very rare book indeed.  . Near Fine. Jonathan Cape. First edition published by Jonathan Cape in 1998. This is a near fine copy. The jacket has a couple of faint strips of browning to the back panel and a couple of spots. Otherwise it is as new and is not price clipped. The book is square and firm. There are a few foxing marks to the upper text block. There are no inscriptions, foxing or ink to the pages. Overall a near fine copy and rare to find signed without dedication by Raymond Briggs to the title page. Briggs' story about his parents that has been adapted to TV. A rare book signed.  . Near Fine. Constable. First edition published by Constable in 1993. This is a very good or better copy. The jacket has light wear to the spine ends. It is not price clipped. The book has no foxing. The black cloth boards are gently pushed to a couple of corners. It is overall a presentable copy. On the half title page there is a previous owners inscription, then underneath this the author and expedition team member Alf Gregory has signed his name. Then on the title page Jan Morris has signed her name. She provided the forward for this book and was also in the expedition team, reporting on their achievements. First edition, second issue, as usual, one of 1000 copies. A handful of review copies were published with an alternative 'Black Coffee' frontispiece by Beardsley, but these were quickly recalled after a complaint from John Lane, who objected to his former partner (Mathews) using the same image as one which had been produced for him, and intended for use in the fifth installment of The Yellow Book.
