Description:
Macmillan & Co. London: Macmillan and Co., Limited, 1919 8vo., original blue publisher's cloth, ruled and lettered in gilt to spine; pp. [iv], v-vii, [i], 279, [i]; the cloth lightly rubbed to extremities, with minor loss of colour; upper edge a little dust soiled, with very faint evidence of a splash mark; previous pencil ownership inscription now erased from ffep, leaving mild depressions in the paper; a very good copy otherwise, sound in binding.  First edition. Upon publication, the Economic Consequences created an intense and immediate controversy for its blatant criticism of both world leaders, and the Treaty of Versailles which ended the First World War.  In his Preface, written while at King's College Cambridge in 1919, Keynes outlines the background for this important work on Economics.  Attached to the British Treasury during the War, he was their official representative at the Paris Peace Conference, as well as being Deputy for the Chancellor of the… Read More

John Murray. First edition published by John Murray in 1930. A very good or better copy without the dustwrapper. The boards are in excellent shape with only the odd very light mark. The book is square and binding tight. There are no bookplates and no ink. The upper text block has some foxing marks and the first few pages occasionally so. Overall a nice copy and better than is usually found.  Arthur Conan Doyles last published book in his lifetime. It is a collection of essays and articles that had been originally published elsewhere such as The Strand and Daily Express, including an essay on Houdini.   . Very Good. Eyre & Spottiswoode. First edition published by Eyre & Spottiswoode in 1969. This copy is rare as it is near fine. The spine of the jacket is a shade faded and there are a couple of creases on the lower inside flap and a crease to the upper inside flap. There are tiny amounts of wear to the odd corner. Otherwise the jacket is in fantastic condition. This is the first state jacket with the earliest portrait of the author on the back panel. The book is also excellent with no foxing, marks or ink. Bernice Ruben's booker prize winning novel from 1969. A rarity to  find as a first edition and in this sort of condition.  . Near Fine. Description:
Methuen. First edition published by Methuen in 1915. This copy is scarce because it is in very near fine condition. It is a superb copy. The boards have very little wear at all. The spine is a shade faded. The book is square with no bumps or wear at all. The pages are clean and without marks. It is a high grade book.  Ransome's first book and his only work of fiction published outside of the Swallows and Amazons series. It is particularly rare to find in first print, with only 1200 printed of which around 300 were ruined. Making this very near fine copy a remarkable survivor. A supernatural novel involving an ancient evil and the quest for eternal life. Lovecraft described the book as "attaining some darkly excellent effects". A very rare book indeed.  . Near Fine. Hardcover. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. 1915.

Description:
Elkin Mathews. 8vo., blue cloth lettered in gilt to spine and upper board; with cobweb design to upper; pp. [ix], x, [iii], 4-99, [iii], [3-20, ads]; with a frontispiece by Aubrey Beardsley; outer and lower edge untrimmed; spine a little faded; light spotting to outer edges and final paste-down; else a very good example, with newspaper clipping tipped-in to the ffep. First edition, second issue, as usual, one of 1000 copies. A handful of review copies were published with an alternative 'Black Coffee' frontispiece by Beardsley, but these were quickly recalled after a complaint from John Lane, who objected to his former partner (Mathews) using the same image as one which had been produced for him, and intended for use in the fifth installment of The Yellow Book. A third, remainder issue was later published with both illustrations featured. An unusual tale about a man declared insane by his mother, written in a style which was to pave the way for the stream-of-consciousness writing which was… Read More

Description:
W.H. Freeman. Oxford: W. H. Freeman and Company, 1982 8vo., bright green boards, backstrip and upper cover lettered in silver, with ISBN printed to lower; black, green and white dust jacket designed by Perry Smith; pp. [v], vi-viii, [iv], 307, [i]; a fine copy, almost as fresh as the day it was printed, save for a couple of very small spots to the edges, and pencil price now erased from the ffep.  First edition.  The controversial evolutionary biologist and fervent atheist Richard Dawkins rose to fame in 1976 with his publication of The Selfish Gene. In it, he builds on George C. Williams's theory of Natural Selection as a way of expressing a gene-centred view of evolution. The Extended Phenotype introduces a new biological concept, and is considered to be a direct sequel to this work. Dawkins argues that phenotype (the set of observable characteristics of an organism) should not be limited simply to biological processes such as tissue growth, but extended out to include the… Read More
