Moscow-Leningrad: Verlagsgenossenschaft Ausländer Arbeiter in der UdSSR, 1933. First German-language edition. 19 cm. 62,[2] pp. Original pictorial wrappers, stapled. One-inch scratch on front wrapper, rear wrapper moderately soiled, leaves toned. Very good.
"A Victory of World Historical Significance" A paper on the January plenary session of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, by Sergei Kirov (1886-1934), who served in the Committee. Kirov was an early Bolshevik revolutionary, Soviet politician, and close associate and supporter of Stalin. His assassination in 1934 provided a pretext for growing political repression by Stalin, culminating in the Great Purge.

Binding scuffed, extremities worn. Significant dampstain in lower-outer front board and text block (mostly in margins), causing light loss to corner of binding and front endpapers and chipping to first several leaves. Fair to good. After the first edition of 1878. "Satanism, that is, The throne of Satan fought from the throne of the Holy Spirit. Refutation of the errors of the Spiritist school": an anti-Spiritist polemic by the Spanish priest and Carlist politician, Vicente de Manterola y Pérez (1833-1891). Spiritism was an early offshoot of Spiritualism, codified in the mid-19th century by the French educator Hippolyte Léon Denizard Rivail (1804-1869), under the name Allan Kardec.

Bookplate of Jacob L. Chernovsky in case. Binding worn, joints cracked, leaves wrinkled, mold stains in outer leaves, contents mildly foxed. Good. "To the medical bibliographer there are few more treasured Americana than the brown-backed, poorly printed octavo volume of 280 pages with the imprint "Plattsburgh, Printed by F. P. Allan, 1833'" (Osler 1972). William Beaumont (1785-1853), the "Father of Gastric Physiology," was serving as a U.S. Army surgeon in the Michigan Territory in 1822 when he treated Alexis St. Martin, an 18-year-old French-Canadian guide who had been wounded in his left side by an accidental discharge of a musket loaded with duck shot.
