Very good uncut and partially unopened, slight foxing of engraved leaves, publisher's ochre cloth which has faded but turn-ins appear to reflect an original brighter red color, worn paper label on spine, prior owner inscription dated 1830 (placing the cloth not later than such date).. London: Smith, Elder and Co, 1861. First Edition. Very good but rebound in modern red cloth with leather spine label, contents generally clean but with a few contemporary errant ink marks.. First Edition of Rossetti's first regularly published book, one of around 600 copies (and given institutional holdings, not likely too many remaining in private hands). 8vo. xxxvi, 464pp., bound without half-title or errata. London: Charles Dolman, 1851. First Edition. Very good pamplet without wrappers as issued.. First edition of Pugin's pamphlet wherein he again attempted to venture into theological matters creating quite a controversy, and one of the last works he wrote prior to his death in 1852. Belcher A56.

New York: MacMillan & Co, 1893. First Edition. Very good with light wear to the covers, which remain bright.. Bears the signature and bookplate of Eugene Field. However, as with many books bearing Field's signature, same could be that of Eugene Field's son, Eugene Field Jr., who worked with accomplice Harry Dayton Sickles in "enlarging" his father's library, adding provenance by forging his father's signature. Field Jr. was never charged, and his forgeries are now collectible in their own right.

About very good in original blind-stamped brown cloth, gilt lettering, somewhat cocked and rubbed with prior owner name in ink, and dampstaining to volume 2.. First Edition first printing per BAL's points of issue. Volume II has inserted catalog dated January, 1861. Notably, BAL notes the earliest catalog as February 1861, whereas this copy's catalog is dated the prior month. Holmes's first novel. His medical background, and job as a professor at Harvard Medical School, was an important influence on the novel's storyline, as the book is narrated by . . . a medical school professor. 12mo. 2 vol. New Rochelle, NY: Elston Press, 1902. Very good with minor rubbing to edges and spine, and minor staining to endpapers/pastedowns.. Limited edition, one of 160 copies from the important but short-lived press. Beautifully printed in black and red Caslon Old Roman type on handmade paper. Elston's Clark Conwell "was one of the most brilliant of the Kelmscott disciples. His books exemplify the best in the private press spirit: with traditional models as a point of departure, they achieve freshness of their own. They were printed by handpress in limited editions on handmade paper [] bound in boards . . ." Thompson, American Book Design and William Morris, 1977. Small 4to. [8], 24pp., [1]. Johnson 13. Ransom 12. Very good in publisher's dark blue cloth boards with gilt spine, top edge gilt, and deckle edges.

Boston: Houghton, Mifflin and Company; The Riverside Press, Cambridge, 1884. Overall very good, with rubbing to leather on all volumes, one volume with a leather panel separating from spine with loss, contents clean throughout and with both frontispiece portraits present.. The Riverside edition, new and revised. Complete in 11 volumes as issued (a twelfth volume was issued years later in 1893). Uniformly bound in pebbled half leather over marbled boards, top edges gilt. Cooke, pgs. 161-66.

First edition from a leading proponent of the Gothic Revival and head of the Ecclesiological Society (successor to the Cambridge Camden Society) which examines medieval cathedrals and how the various design elements can be applied to the construction of nineteenth century cathedrals in Britain and its colonies, including Australia and islands in the Caribbean. A heavily illustrated work, with a frontispiece and fifty additional illustrations. 8vo. x, 282pp. Very good in contemporary half-leather over marbled boards, all edges marbled, bound without the Murray catalog, boards and leather are rubbed and bumped, closed tear at top of spine, large but tasteful early twentieth century inscription on flyleaf.

Scarce as Worldcat locates three copies as of October 2020.

Bound in full limp vellum with gilt-lettered spine. This was the first book printed in the pica type designed by C. R. Ashbee and known as the "Endeavour" type. Of this type, Ashbee stated that he "sought to follow upon the lines laid down by Morris. . . and the introduction of a rather Gothic and perhaps uncial feeling." Crawford, C.R. Ashbee. Very good in contemporary gilt-tooled calf, red morocco lettering-piece, all edges green, extremities worn, surface loss to upper board, chipping to spine, joints split, and occasional spotting/creasing.. Third edition, being the first Dublin edition. This work was the spiritual successor to her arguably first work of prose, Thoughts on the Importance of the Manners of the Great to General Society (1788). Ever the reformer, in the instant work she, as journalist Richard Davey later wrote, "deplores the general laxity of morals that pervaded every class of English Society" but in particular, the upper classes. In sending a copy to an acquaintance in New York, William Cowper wrote that his acquaintance's, or Americans', manners "may be more pure than ours, yet it is unlikely that even among you may be found some to whom her strictures are applicable." 12mo.
