Amorial bookplate of Douglas Fairbanks Jr. on the front pastedown. The volume is shelf worn and soiled on the bottom edges. The dust jacket (un priced) is lightly soiled, has a small abrasion on the rear panel, has several closed tears (longest is 1" on the front panel) with occasional creasing, and there is some wrinkling near the spine crown. The jacket is now sleeved in mylar.

Many pages are uncut. Mild edgewear with a split in the cloth, the depth of the bevel, at the top front gutter. Spine is age toned and the spine lettering is somewhat subdued. The interior has a small number notation at the top left corner of the front pastdown. Mild age toning to the page perimeters.

Cordelia Editions, Santa Barbara, 1982. First Edition. Hardcover. Like New. Signed. Limited to 170 total copies, this is copy # VII out of 15 Roman numeral copies, SIGNED by both Kenneth Millar and Margaret Millar on the limitation page. Additionally, this copy is inscribed, (it looks like its to Wayne Warga) and SIGNED by Margaret Millar on the page facing the title page. Laid in is a reproduction of a 1931 photograph of the high school debate team of which both authors were members. The first story of each, written when they were in high school was published in 1931 in their school magazine, The Grumbler. Each is reproduced in this book. This volume is in fine condition and is protected in a plastic sleeve.

The volume is bumped and frayed on the spine ends, and has spots of soiling on the front panel. The name of K C Balderston is inked to the front endpaper, bookplates are affixed to both pastedowns, and there is a small bookseller's label on the front endpaper. The binding is still firm and the pages have acquired a gentle toning.

Houghton, Mifflin, and Company, 1890. Hardcover. Very Good. Gilt stamped dark green cloth with beveled edges; top edges gilt. The volume is lightly bumped on the corners, the spine ends are pushed with vertical creases, and there is occasional spotting on the facing panels. The spine lettering is mildly subdued. The interior has some occsion very light pencilled parenthetical marks.

Ticknor and Fields, , 1867. First Edition. Hardcover. Good. Original gilt stamped green cloth, this copy with the half title page inserted before the first page of text. The volume is edge rubbed with bumps and abrasions on the spine ends. There is a 3/4" split along the top rear joint, and a 3/8" closed tear on the crown. The front endpaper has a jagged 1 1/2" closed tear on its base and there is scuffing and abrasions near the fore-edge. The rear hinge is cracked, exposing the webbing, and there is a creased corner on pp 305-306 imprinting on a few preceding and following leaves. The binding is still solid.

The volume is bumped on the spine ends and there is a soft crease on the rear endpaper. The unclipped dust jacket, protected in a sleeve, has light wear on the spine crown and a series of creases on the rear panel.

Tipped onto the front endpaper is a hand written letter to Eugene Field Lynch, SIGNED by Eugene Field. Publisher's cloth over plain paper boards, titles in gilt. Extremities rubbed, bumped, soiled and edgeworn, with professional touch up to corners and spine. Spine label with small chips and light abrasions. The interior is in very good condition with hinges professionally reinforced. The front pastedown is adorned with 5 bookplates, including those of Eugene Field, Leigh Lynch, Francis Wilson (publisher), and Charles L. Dana.

Francis Wilson, The Orchard, New Rochelle, 1891. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Poor. Signed. One of 70 copies on hand made paper. Unnumbered, SIGNED "John Wilson & Son" by the publisher on last page. Gilt stamped parchment spine with gilt stamped title on black leather background. Beige cloth over boards stamped in gilt. Top edges gilt, nylon ribbon marker is detached and is ladi in. The volume is moderately soiled, bumped on the corners and spine ends, with loss at the tail, and the leather spine label is very lightly chipped. The interior is in excellent condition with gentle toning to the leaves and off-setting from the ribbon to the two leaves where it now resides. The dust jacket has a corner clipped detached rear flap, a chipped and detached rear panel, a badly chipped spine about 40% intact, a chipped front panel, and a corner clipped front flap. What is there is now protected in a sleeve.

The volume is bumped on the spine ends and corners, and has a small bookseller's label on the rear pastedown. The dust jacket has short uniform corner clips (price of $3.95 is intact), has edge chips, tears, and wrinkles and there are chips the length of the spine ends (to a depth of 3/8" on the crown and 1/2" on the tail). The jacket is mow sleeved in mylar.

The volume is edgeworn and has a spot on the top edges. The unpriced dust jacket is edgeworn(with a few closed tears) and chipped at the spine ends and corners. The jacket is now protected in mylar.

Limited to 350 copies, of which this is # 238, SIGNED, in pencil, by Eden Phillpots underneath his photographic frontispiece . Quarter bound in gilt stamped velum over brown papered boards. The spine is lightly sunned, corners and spine ends are bumped with light abrasions to the bottom corners, and there is some sporadic foxing to the page edges. There are pencil notations (page number changes, additions, deletions) throughout the text (as if this copy was used as a guide for a trade edition) and the endpapers have light offsetting from the acetate protector.

Louis-Henry May, Paris, 1899. First Edition. Hardcover. Good. Gilt stamped beige paper over boards and gilt and brown stamped cloth spine. The volume is corner and spine bumped, and the boards are mildly soiled. The interior has a former dealer's description affixed to the top of the front pastedown, the second and penultimate endpapers have offsetting (?) and some of the leaves have been roughly opened leaving jagged edges.

The Frank M. Morris Co., Chicago, 1906. First Edition. Hardcover. Good. Gilt stamped blue cloth. Contents include a cartoon plate of a Poe monument and 5 plate drawings of Poe portraits, 2 of which serve as a pre-frontispiece; the top is slit horizontally and bound in over another allowing the reader to examine different characteristics or personalities of Edgar Allan Poe. The volume is rubbed on the facing panels, has extremity wear with bumped and exposed corners, and is frayed and abraded spine ends. The spine lettering is, for the most part, unreadable. The endpapers are foxed and toned, there is occasional foxing throughout, and the leaves preceding and following the portrait plates are toned. One instance found of adjoining leaves being unopened. Not a desirable copy, but complete.

Taschen, 2001-03-15. Softcover. Very Good. Reprint. The covers have gentle tipping of the corners and there is light surface wear on the front panel. The interior is in very good condition but has some gentle waviness on both top and bottom page edges of the first few leaves near the gutter.
