Description:
Livingston, Montana. Clark City Press. 1988. First edition. Octavo (9 x 7). 208 pp. Illustrated by the author. Foreword by Nick Lyons. With a tipped-in color print of a Striped Bass illustrated by Chatham on the title page. Laid-in is a colored pencil drawing by Russell showing a fly fisherman (it’s Russ) wading waist deep in a river fly casting. This original drawing was published by Russ in his 1978 book, "Silent Seasons," and it appears on page 197. The drawing measures 7 1/2 x 4 3/4 inches and it has Russ’s Papermill Creek/Tomales Bay Monogram and the year (77), which can be seen on the back of his waders at water level. These are compelling stories by a master writer; Russ wrote an especially sensitive piece on Roderick Haig-Brown. With Russell Chatham’s death in November 2019, the West Coast voice of Steelhead and Salmon preservation expressed through his writings, is at an end. The book is bound in white wrappers with green titles. Pictorial dust jacket. A nice book.… Read More

Description:
Livingston, Montana. Clark City Press. 1991 [1988]. Second printing. Octavo (9 x 7). 208 pp. Illustrated by the author. Black and white photos. Foreword by Nick Lyons. Compelling, interesting stories penned by a master writer. No other west coast writer has captured and expressed in such absorbing language fly fishing for salmon, steelhead and stripers as has Russ Chatham. The black and white photo on the front cover was taken by Russ of his friend Guy de la Valdene during a successful salmon fly fishing trip to Iceland. If you would like to read about the adventure from Guy’s point-of-view, read his book "On the Water." The book is bound in pictorial wrappers with white titles. Just a touch of edge wear, otherwise a fine book..

Photo frontispiece showing a raging Nepigon river. Black and white plates of the river in various locations. The author writes with a good sense of self-consciousness describing fly fishing for trout: "Putting one’s flies on the water like thistledown or snowflakes is unessential here on the Nepigon. Nor is accuracy required on these ripples and rapids." That simple thought should endear Mr. Millard to the angler who sneeringly flogs the water. The book is bound in the original green cloth with gilt title on the front cover. A nice book. Clean and very good.. Signed by Author..
