Jones was a lawyer in Jacksonville according to Cutler's "History of Florida," his biography states: "With other citizens of progressive inclinations and farsightedness he supports movements fostered with the idea of benefiting the interests and institutions of Jacksonville and the welfare of its people." Single sheet of lined paper, measuring 7 1/2 x 12 in. A manuscript warrant from Sumner County, Tennessee from J.H. Caldwell, Justice of the Peace, authorizing the Sheriff or any constable of the said county to summon William Elis to appear to answer the complaint of Daniel McCroskey regarding the theft of a rifle worth $100. Docketted on verso; along with the justice's decision to find against Elis for $45 and costs. Creased from folding (split along one fold, slightly affecting text.

Mobile, AL: July 23rd, 1855. 8vo. 29 (i.e., 28) pp. Self-wrappers, stitched; some spine erosion and soiling, else very good. Manuscript sermon by Abernethy, with a number of manuscript corrections and additions through the text and with a note on the inside of the front wrapper in the author's hand "Read at the navy yard, Sunday morning, July 29th 1855 to a large congregation." The author describes himself on the title page with "Navy Yard M.E. Society, Alabama Conference." The sermon is a warning against excess.

Kittrell, NC: The hotel, 1880. Trade card for the hotel. Oblong folded card (3 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches), title panel with the illustration, interior panels with promotional text: "For health, pleasure, or sporting ... free from malaria ... hotel has six hundred feet of piazzas enclosed with glass ... cuisine is unsurpassed & homelike." Renovated and opened in 1871 both stories of two sides enclosed in glass, the hotel became popular with northern quail hunters and tubercular patients; it burned with all of its contents in 1893. OCLC locates two copies (American Antiquarian Society, East Carolina). Some browning, but a very good example.

Small red leather wallet-style copy of "The Gentleman's Annual Pocket Remembrancer, for the Year 1801," published in Philadelphia: printed by John Bioren, for William Y. Birch, nd (ca.1800). Leather a bit rubbed, flap intact. The Remembrancer contains, in addition to the printed text, some "ruled pages for memorandums, observations, and engagements." Thomas Boylston Adams, third son and youngest child of President John Adams (1735-1826) and his wife Abigail (1744-1818), has used these calendar style pages to record brief entries in pencil regarding his law practice, financial transactions with various individuals, travels, subscriptions, and notations of letters to family members. Adams served as secretary to his brother John Quincy Adams during his first diplomatic mission to Europe from 1794-1798, returning to Philadelphia to practice law at the end of that time. The "Post-scriptum" was a last-minute addition to the work, which as originally printed ended with the "Omission" on p. 207 and table of contents on the verso of that leaf. Text in the post-script ends mid-word on p. 210, with one half of page 211 blank [apparently a printer's error]. The digital copy available through the University of California library system has the same printer's fault, and calls this version "a rare variant of the quarto edition published in the same year, without place of publication."
