Charles Gosselin, Paris, 1835. Second Edition. Hardcover (Quarter Leather). Very Good Condition. Book Second edition of the first part of this classic analysis of democracy in America, printed the same year as the small first edition of around 500 copies. The first volume’s topic is the institutions of the United States (Institutions des EÌtats-Unis) and the second is the functioning of those institutions (Fonctionnement de ces institutions). In a publication note Tocqueville says that because the first edition sold out so quickly, he was only able “to introduce very slight changes in the second. He had to confine himself to correcting some typographical errors and to removing a small number of material errors†(translated from the French). The second part was not published until April 1840 and was released with the eighth edition of this first part. The map has been hand colored and remains bright. It is in excellent condition, with only a small tear to the left margin where the map… Read More

Worcester Society of Antiquity, Worcester, MA, 1907. Hardcover. Very Good- Condition/No Dust Jacket (as issued). The only reason why the booklet is graded as VG-minus is because it is Ex-Lib and has a few marginal notes. That doesn't reflect the overall condition which is quite good since it has been protected in a buckram binding and rarely looked at. Size: About 10" - Small Quarto (Sm. 4to). 28 pages. There are five pages in which neatly written marginal annotations have been made either correcting or supplementing the information in the pamphlet. The pamphlet has been bound in green buckram over boards for library use. The binding shows minimal shelf wear. The title and year of publication are printed in gilt on the spine. No foxing in this copy. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing. Colby College Press, Waterville, ME, 1951. Softcover (Saddle-stapled). Good Condition. Pamphlet Inscribed by Author. A scarce bit of ephemera, especially inscribed by Roberts. The copies I have seen are marked as Christmas gifts to friends in 1951. This copy is inscribed on the title page to Dr. Oscar Johnson by Roberts. The Christmas notation at the bottom of the page next to the year of publication is almost completely washed away by the water. The text was originally written by Roberts as his last article for the Saturday Evening Post (Bales, 1993, p. 87) and reprinted by Colby College Press. There is a four page catalog of publications at the rear of the text. Note: I have a large selection of Kenneth Roberts books and related materials. Contact me if you are looking for something in particular. First Thus. Size: Around 7" or slightly taller - Duodecimo (12mo). 27 pages. Item Type: Pamphlet.
