The book features numerous full-page illustrations by Sidney Paget.Condition:There are light brown stain splashes on the covers and spine; tiny cloth tears at the corners. Crack at the front hinge resulting in a small cluster of pages from the frontispiece to page 14 being loose (the pages are attached, but are loose). The pages are in overall very good condition with only an occasional small, light stain or smudge found...and a thin, light stain strip along the top edge of the final few pages. Name/date (1903) written in pencil on the front end paper...no other writing found. "Library of W.T. Campbell" stamped in ink on the front pastedown. Overall a very nice reading copy, but unfortunately not a collector's copy due to the stains on the covers.

This is a one-of-a kind, handmade log book that records the "Details/Particulars of Boston and Albany Railroad Locomotives." The book was created July 12, 1890 (and revised May 9, 1895) by Walter F. Starbuck of Waltham, Massachusetts. In this log book, Starbuck records the following locomotive information (note - not all data fields apply to all locomotives): Builder; When Built; When Rebuilt; Kind of Engine; Diam. Drivers; Wt.; Div.; Builder's No.; Former Name; Remarks; Class; Station. Each page is hand-numbered at the upper-outer corner; there are 97 numbered pages in all (the vast majority of pages contain locomotive data). The "cookbook" contains numerous recipes for breads, sandwiches, beverages, fish, cheese dishes, soups, pies, etc. There are photographs and numerous illustrated advertisements. The newspaper measures 18" tall when unfolded. Please see the photos - all pages are shown.Condition:The pages are age-toned and somewhat brittle. Tears and chipping along the perimeter of the pages with pieces missing, most notably at the left and right edges. Tears/pieces missing along the vertical crease of the 1st and last pages.
