Description:
Tokyo: Asahi Shinbun-Sha, 1942].. 4to. (8), 160 pp. Publisher's cream boards with blue, brown and silver lettering and decoration, map endpapers, photographically illustrated dust jacket, colour illustrated card slipcase. Black and white photographic illustrations throughout. Cracking to the joints though they remain sound, jacket and slipcase both fragile and very worn with losses, the former with a few tissue reinforcements on the verso. Produced in the early years of the Pacific theatre of the Second World War and illustrating Japanese servicemen. The spine is numbered "1", suggesting further instalments were intended but these apparently never came to fruition, possibly as the tide of the war started to move against Japan.

Description:
Stevenage: Finishing Publications Ltd., 2009.. Second edition. 8vo. (vi), 246, (4) pp. Publisher's red cloth, gilt lettered to the spine and decorated to the upper board, dust jacket. Illustrations by the author throughout. An excellent copy. A cult novel, being a barely fictionalised description of the petty rivalries and squabbles within the artists' community in St. Ives. The book provoked much consternation locally and prompted a libel action leading to the book's early withdrawal from sale. First published in 1962, this is the sole reprint and benefits from the author's glossary of terms and real names hitherto unpublished. Neither edition is common.

Description:
London: Macmillan and Co., 1889.. First edition. 8vo. xvi, 494, (2) pp. Publisher's green cloth, gilt lettered and ruled to spine, neatly rebacked preserving most of the original spine, book label of the entomologist Norman Hickin to the front free endpaper, another prior's owner's ink stamp to the head of the title page, a further old ink stamp of "Hotel Continental Mustapha-Alger" to the header of the first page of the preface. Lacking the frontispiece portrait of Wallace but with the folding colour map (this also featuring the hotel stamp on the verso) and 37 text figures. Some light wear to the cloth, else very good. Wallace's letter to Darwin from the far east in 1858 led to their collaboration and prompted Darwin to publish "The Origin of Species" a year later. This work updates his theories for a society where evolution "is now universally accepted as the order of nature in the organic world" (Preface).
