Inscribed to "Louie" (Louie Roripaugh, husband of Gardner's secretary and assistant, Hedy Roripaugh) and SIGNED both "Erle" and "Erle Stanley Gardner" on the front endpaper. The volume is edge rubbed with bumping at the spine ends. The pages are lightly toned. The unclipped dust jacket is chipped on the edges, heavily so on the top of the front panel where it cuts deeply into the first line of the title, and also on the spine where the bottom 2 1/2" are wiped out. What remains is now protected in mylar.

The volume is bumped at the spine ends and the half title and title pages are double creased on the top corner. The unpriced dust jacket, sleeved in mylar, is mildly spine and perimeter toned.

The volume is bumped on the spie ends and corners, and the leqves are lightly toned. The unclipped, sleeve protected, dust jacket has a sunned spine and edge wear to include chips(to a depth of 1/4") and wrinkles.

Faber & Faber, 1933. First Edition. Hardcover. Good/Fair - Good. The volume is heavily edge rubbed with the boards exposed at the spine ends and bottom rear corner. Additionally, there is a 1/4" tear on the top front joint. The pages are lightly toned. The dust jacket, uniformly corner clipped, has the price of 2s.6d. intact, appears to be in fairly good condition except the flap folds and spine which are separate pieces of similar color applied paper to make a complete jacket. The jacket, with its facsimile pieces, are sleeved in mylar.

The volume is bumped at the spine ends, has a light cant, and the text leaves are gently toned. The unclipped dust jacket, sleeve protected, has edge wear to include wrinkling, a ½" closed tear at the base of the front panel, and there is some scattered soiling.

Dood, Mead & Company, 1914. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. with "Published January 1914" on the copyright page (Johnson, "American First Editions", p.207). Bound in 3/4 brown Morocco over marbled boards, 5 raised bands on lighter toned spine, spine compartments stamped in gilt, top edges gilt, marbled endpapers. The volume is lightly bumped on the corners with the upper tops exposed, has a small stain on the spine, an abrasion on the tail, and is rubbed on the front panel. There is offsetting to the perimeters of the endpapers caused by the overlap of the leather on the pastedowns, and a small area on the top of the fore-edges is stained (overrun from the gilding?). Surprisingly, not a common title.

Writers Workshop Redbird Book, 1987. First Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/ (Glassine) Good. Signed. Inscribed (to poet, James LeCuyer), SIGNED, and dated by Chitra Divakaruni on the front endpaper. Red sari cloth with a gilt stamped symbol on both front and rear panels, and bordered repeating design the length of the front panel near the fore-edge. Has the original glassine and wrap-a-round band. The volume has pastedown wrinkles from the binding process and the protective issued glassine is chipped along the edges (largest is 1 1/4" x 3/4" at the top of the rear panel).
