Description:
Face Photosetting, London., [1968]. First edition. 367 sheets of coarse brown craft paper, each measuring 14 x 14 cm, between a title-sheet and a card backing. A strip of paper holds the sheets together. All but two of them bear photographic image, each associated with a particular date. For instance, the very first shows the window of a first class train compartment. Other numbers are derived from photos of racehorses, greengrocer labels, bus stops, sex shows, doorways, gravestones, etc, etc. A number of photographers contributed to the project. On the front sheet and one of the edges is an inkstamp of the logo of the company Face, which was founded in this year by John McConnell to take advantage of a now-defunct method of printing. A quirky production, not least in the decision to put the publishing details at the end of February.Fine in the original sturdy card mailing box. Rare.
