Mapstone is an unusual protagonist - he is a historian, who has been hired by the Sheriff's Office for various reasons. An aside, have no idea what the drawing from Monument Valley is doing on the jacket.

The fictionalized account follows a French Airborne Battalion fighting insurgents in Indochina and Algeria.
