Description:
[Chicago: C.M. Henderson & Co, 1890. 16 x 31 cm., printed on both sides, lightly creased from folding. One side has an outlined illustration, printed in red and black, of the "red school-house," plus cut-outs of people, a chimney, trees, and a fence, all to be assembled with a series of folds and a bottle of glue, to "construct in miniature the famous little building." Any boy or girl found wearing or purchasing a pair of the Henderson shoes was entitled to the cut-out illustration. This one is uncut and unused. On the verso is text advertising the Henderson Company's signature kid and goat button shoes, which are stamped with the trade-mark Little Red School House on the bottom of one of each pair, as well as instructions on how to assemble the cut-out, and the ad for R.M. Joliet, Ill: The Gerlach-Barklow Co, 1942. Stiff manila card stock, folded along top edge to 15 x 12.5 cm., with small calendar sheets for the year 1942, printed in black and red, stapled to the inside of the folder. A brief reminiscence of Rogers, and a greeting from George Crawford and the Tarbell-Watters Company is printed above the calendar pages. Tipped on to the front cover is a color portrait of Will Rogers, entitled "I See By the Papers," reproduced from the original painting by Antonio d'Elia. Rogers is depicted sitting in a rocking chair reading the paper, while chickens peck the ground just outside his door. The calendar folder is bound along the top with ribbon. A very good copy. Will Rogers (1879-1935) was known as "Oklahoma's Favorite Son."

[4], 168 pp., [1] advertisement, 22 illustrations on 18 plates, 8 are tinted; two folding maps, one with a long closed tear where the map is attached to a tab, and small closed tears at some folds, the other with a short tear at tab. Publishers black pebbled cloth, front board with gilt stamping, spine reinforced with black cloth tape. Ex-libris of NY Mercantile library with usual stamps. Some edge chipping, corners of boards worn. A good copy. The Yosemite illustrations are considered to be the first images of the area used in a book. They were done from drawings by Thomas A. Ayres. The caption title on the frontis. misspells the name of the falls as "Yo-Hamite Falls," which a previous owner has corrected in pencil.
