Boston: Ticknor and Fields, 1865. First Edition . Hardcover. Very Good Plus Condition.. 12mo. 252 pages with 24 pp ads dated Dec, 1864. First edition which consisted of only 2,040 copies. Original purple P cloth (pebbled) as noted in Borst. Protected in mylar. Binding is much better than average with almost no wear to the tips and with very minor wear to the top and bottom of the spine, no real chips or tears. The purple color on the spine has faded to a light brown, but still providing enough contrast to read the gilt title across the room. BAL binding C, sequence not determined. Interior of the book is clean and tight. No previous owner's names. An above average, attractive copy. BAL 20115.

Marbled boards are lightly rubbed, shelf wear, vellum in nice shape with very minor soiling. Interior of the three volumes are clean with the very mildest of foxing at a few end papers. Volume three includes the index of the three volumes and is dated August 1885. Charterhouse boarding school. An attractive, rare three volume set.
