Red cloth hard covers with gilt spine lettering, quarto, 75 text pages followed by 9 folded figures. Remarkable work by Danish Egyptologist, Erik Iversen, and devoted entirely to the grid system and the proportions of the human body. Its basic concerns were to demonstrate that Egyptian metrology and the proportions of the human figure in art and life were indissolubly linked, and to undertake a theoretical approach to the subject rather than a practical one based on field studies. This study is complete with its 9 folded figures at rear. Crisp copy, sharp corners very bright inside and out. Red cloth binding with plates that have probably never been opened.

Contemporary calf, gilt-stamped lettering in red leather spine label (5 raised bands); 3 volumes, 8vo (5 x 7.5 inches); pp. iv, [4], 364; 443; [4], 344, [88] (index, ads "Books Printed for, and Sold by William Taylor, at the Ship in Paternoster-Row"). All volumes: Spines a bit dry, and lightly chipped at tips; light bumping and scuffing along joints and edges of boards; text block a bit tanned along the edges, prelims, and terminals, but overall bright and clean. Armorial bookplate of Sam 1 Goodford of ye Inner Temple Esqr. 1737; later bookplate of Munson Havens and Hetty Jamon Havens, "Their Book." First Edition, a handsome set of one of the most influential English books of the 18th century, hailed for its prose style as well as for its philosophical contents.

Robert Herrick (1591-1674) was an English poet, best known as a leader of the "carpe diem" genre which celebrated the brevity of life and emphasized the need to make the most of our time here. The most famous of these poems being, "To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time"

London. undated. (1941). Broadsheet. Original WWII propaganda poster featuring the January 27th speech of Winston Churchill, given 3 months before his war-time appointment as Prime Minister. 10 X 15 in. Bordered with decorative line and nautical design.

The April 1941 print date is more than a year after Churchill delivered this speech and nearly a year into his premiership. This speech was published in a variety or sizes and slight text variations. Red and Black print remains vibrant despite slight creasing. Churchill uses this speech to underscore the importance of the English[man]'s cause, condemning brutality and providing a call-to-arms for those at home and abroad.

Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849) was an American author, poet and literary critic who's tales of the macabre have terrified and inspired millions. A pioneer of the short story and detective fiction, Edgar Allan Poe is often viewed as a tragic figure in his own right.
Poe was one of the first American writers to find great success in Europe than he would at home, initially. It was with the help of translations by Baudelaire that Poe found fame in France. These translations became the definitive texts across Europe. Poe's poignant, gloomy and sometimes terrifying tales have gone on to inspire countless other fiction writers such as Jules Verne and H.P. Lovecraft.
True to fashion, Poe's death is as mysterious as his stories. Found wandering the streets of Baltimore, completely disoriented and wearing another man's clothing, the author died shortly after his discovery.

A very good, complete set of Greenaway works which embody the spirit of illustration for children. The Almanacks appeal also lay in each new year's choice of decorations for the seasons. Although the Almanacks popularity was a bit more erratic than her major works, in America they had sales of almost twice the British market; the 1883 was the best-selling year, with more than 90,000 sold. The Greenaway craze inspired imitations and spin offs and even a line of clothing based on the clothing shown in her illustrations. Ultimately, Greenaway's works constitute one of the primary influences on children's illustration and children's publishing.
