The pages lightly and evenly toned, in an at least very good dust jacket with moderate wear at crown and tail. Like her friend Sylvia Plath she was an expatriate American married to a British writer (Alan Sillitoe). She was nominated for a Whitbread in 1999.

Also, contributing, Michael Longley and Jonathan Galassi who was then at Cambridge, now president of US publisher Farr, Straus *& Giroux, arguably the preminent poetry publisher in the US, and himself an esteemed poet and translator. A very good copy with residue from an old price-sticker on the front cover.

Dennis, MA: Salt- Works Press, 1976. First edition. Blue cloth; 8vo. One of 26 hand-bound, signed and lettered. This copy ("K") inscribed to the poet's Father: "#36 in the beginning of a new style". Unpaginated. Spine faded, and as with many of the cloth books kept by the poet who inherited his Father's copies of his own books a bit musty. Still an important and interesting inscription. The poet dedicated the book to himself, so this is as close to a dedication copy as one can get. Musty else about very good. Bertholf A39.

New York: Knopf, 1991. First edition. A slip-cased set of three samplers of three novels published in the Spring of 1991. Jernigan is Gates' first novel; it was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. He is, also, a well-respected music critic. These were distributed primarily to the book trade, and are somewhat scarce. This is in fine condition, still shrink-wrapped. A nice piece of marketing: the book business being as it is may never again see the likes of the selling materials produced in the late 80's and 90's.
