Iowa City, IA: The Stonewall Press - The Seamark Press, 1972. First Edition. Very good in blue cloth with paper label spine.. First Edition being a limited edition of only 250 copies. This edition of Nelson's collection of poems was printed on a handpress, on handmade Tovil paper, set in Emerson fine, by noted fine press printers Kay Amert, Howard Zimmon and K.K. Merker. Cargo is the fourth book published by Seamark, however, it is the only book issued jointly by the Seamark Press and Kim Merker's Stonewall Press. Upon Merker's passing in 2013, his New York Times obituary stated that "for four decades, using presses he operated with his own inky hands, Mr. Merker was a designer, typesetter and printer of some of the most beautiful books made in America in the late 20th century." An important, and the only joint, publication of two of among the finest presses of the 20th century.

Fisher. ., 1801. 1801 chapbook printing of a work first separately printed in 1799 and initially published in the Lady's Magazine (v.28-9, 1797-98), as "The Two Castles: a Romance" by E. F. The authorship of this work, and its predecessor in the Lady's Magazine, De Courville Castle: A Romance, remains unknown and disputed. Textual scholar Edward Pritcher asserts they were written by professional author Anne Ker, whereas Monica Cristina Soare, in her Berkeley dissertation, suggests that E.F. was a sophisticated, but still amateur, female author largely imitating Radcliffe. This 1801 printing is by Fisher, who Dr. Franz Potter notes was largely insignificant except for his role in the development of gothic chapbooks, particularly, as with this printing, when Fisher teamed up with Hurst. Among the odd plot lines present is the heroine's scoundrelous father uses her in a money counterfeiting scheme. Affectionally referred to as the "brave-hearted lady" by Carlyle, the republication of this work in 2003 brought renewed, and deserved, attention to the long-neglected proto-feminist author. In his introduction to the 2003 edition, Professor Andrew Monnickendam notes this novel challenges commonly accepted beliefs about patriotism, gender, religion, and nationalism - noting the novel is subversive and does not shy away from controversy, an example being her referral to a military parade as a "rehearsal for murder." Very good in circa early 20th-century full levant morocco ruled in gilt, spine elaborately tooled and lettered in gilt, raised bands, gilt inner dentelles, top edge gilt, by Riviere & Son. Spine a bit sunned, some rubbing to edges and extremities, front hinge cracked, some foxing and soiling within.. One of only 18 unnumbered copies on white Chinese paper, which is mounted on larger vellum paper with a Greek motif border, all within another border of vines and leaves. Extensively illustrated with woodcuts by Thurston. Kohlmetz, who provided a bibliography of Puckle's Club, referred to the copies on Chinese paper as a "most sumptuous and noble book." 4o. Second edition of Pugin's groundbreaking work which arguably defined the Gothic Revival in architecture. With a total of 20 plates, an addition of 5 plates (and omission of 1) from the first edition, this second edition adds the notable plates whereby Pugin shows contrasting views of English Catholic towns in 1440 versus 1880, and ancient homes for the poor versus the modern-Victorian panopticon workhouses, and in which he of course laments and "exposed the degrated [sic] state of architecture" after the Middle Ages. The "most important addition to Contrasts [second edition] was a pair of plates. . . These plates made an argument more powerful than Pugin would ever make in words." In a near-contemporary hand someone has neatly written in ink around Thackeray's stamp on the title page: "The crest and monogram of William Makepeace Thackeray. This having been one of his books.. William Makepeace Thackeray's copy with his blindstamped monogram to the title page.
