Signed in ink to recto by the photographer, lower right, and editioned 5/250 lower left. Signed, titled, and dated on verso in pencil. Unexamined out of frame but in apparently fine condition. Sight 8 x 12 inches; nicely matted and framed to an overall size of 22 x 25.5 inches (56 x 65 cm). The German born American photographer and journalist gained prominence as a staff photographer for Life magazine, and is best known for his famous photograph 'V-J Day in Times Square.'

Book Club edition. xvi. 537 pp. Illustrated with photographs and with a Foreword by Frank Sinatra. Red cloth boards with gilt title and decorations on spine, faded blue top edges. Pictorial dust jacket heavily chipped, cloth a little rubbed, else fine. The author started his career as a drummer playing with the Glenn Miller Orchestra, then became a journalist mostly devoted to jazz music and managed recording sessions for different record label companies. His personal relationships with many of the leaders and musicians gave him a front row seat to many live shows and as a writer for Downbeat he had access to anyone and everyone who played in that great era of American music.

A pair of woodcut engravings, "Blake", "Palmer" (depicting the nineteenth century landscape painter, etcher, and printmaker Samuel Palmer RWS), the first inscribed "for Sylvia & Ted" and each signed "Baskin." The images measuring: 8 x 11 cm (Blake) and 5 x 5.5 cm (Palmer).  Fully backed to paper support with small tears and losses to periphery of fragile tissue just outside of the plate, presented archivally matted to 11 x 14 inches and 8 x 10 inches overall respectively. Leonard Baskin had befriended Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes when they were living in Northampton, MA, in 1957-1958. Baskin taught printmaking and sculpture at Smith College from 1953-1973. Rare autograph musical quotation on an album page, two measures, the instantly recognizable tune from Boléro, signed "Maurice Ravel" and dated 17/1/32 and signed additionally beneath on the same date by the important pianist so closely associated with the composer, Marguerite Long.  In fine condition, also signed on the verso by the pianist Alexander Borovsky. 5.2 x 7.5 inches [13 x 19 cm]. The premiere of the G major Concerto by Ravel, conducted by the composer and featuring the pianist Marguerite Long, had taken place just three days prior, on January 14, 1932 at the Salle Pleyel, after which the two musicians had immediately embarked together on a European tour that would last until April. At the premiere, in a program largely repeated on the tour, the Concerto had appeared in a program of Ravel works exclusively, including Pavane pour une infante défunte and Boléro. Inside with a promotional text ('Ysaye - Master Violinist of the World") to inside cover, a page of "Tributes from the Music Critics," and verso advertising recent recordings of the violinist for Columbia Graphophone Co. Small stain to verso, horizontal crease, else fine. 5.5 x 7.5 inches (14 x 19 cm). Carl Flesch called him "the most outstanding and individual violinist I have ever heard in my life," and he was the dedicatee of many major works from Debussy, Saint-Saens, Franck, Chausson and others.

Photogravure, signed to the upper left, "Gloeden / Taormina / 6/8 '10" in black ink. Gloeden Taormina stamp on verso, in fine condition.  22.5×16.5 cm.The German photographer who worked mainly in Italy is mostly known for his pastoral nude studies of Sicilian boys, which usually featured props such as wreaths or amphoras suggesting a setting in the Greece or Italy of antiquity. From a modern standpoint, his work is commendable due to his controlled use of lighting as well as the often elegant poses of his models. Innovative use of photographic filters and special body makeup (a mixture of milk, olive oil, and glycerin) to disguise skin blemishes contribute to the artistic perfection of his works. Famous in his own day, his work was subsequently eclipsed for close to a century, only to re-emerge in recent times as "the most important gay visual artist of the pre–World War I era" according to Thomas Waugh.
