The title poem is a long ballad based on Chapter 37 of Ezekiel. It was completed in November 1943 not too far across the Georgia mountains from Camp Toccoa where the airborne rangers memorialized in Stephen Ambrose's "Band of Brothers" were training for combat. Reece himself was rejected from the army for reasons of ill health.
