Description:
Illustrated (presumably the author) on both sides, with striking and skilled line drawings with watercolor accents. Approximately 6 x 42 (unrolled). No author identified. No place identified. Dated 3/21/1973. A unique dreamlike story that begins as a letter to S (Sedric), recounting how the female speaker felt my shadow disengage itself before she goes to deliver a message to Chardric, Prince of History, who peacefully smoked his water pipe in his American dwelling as the speaker sits upon his beautiful Chinese rug. Just then, a feminine Illusion crashed through the window: it was the most beautiful Pregnant Hippopotamus I have seen. The story continues from there as the rug transports them to a papyrus patch and to the Nile and back, before concluding, Can you understand my succumbing to Chardric? He was a bit like you. An accomplished and beautifully-realized vernacular artistic creation.

Description:
5 Handguns. Marker, glitter, paint(?) on repurposed plywood (3/4 thick, 9.5 x 20.5). Circa 1999. Gowens (1918-2003), a black self-taught artist, was known to "shoot up a box of cartridges a week" in his yard in Sanford, Florida, reasoning that it might scare away anyone who might be lurking in the dark (https://www.orlandoweekly.com). His art pieces focus on guns, as he was seemingly obsessed with the topic after he was reportedly robbed of his guns on October 27, 1999 (a date referenced on this piece).
