Bound in red cloth, with clipped dw, b/w frontis photograph, " Front-line Theatre ", 11 b/w photographs, 359pp. The first part of the book gives a picture of 19th. century theatrical life, its plays and players and the various kinds of companies. The second part describes the theatre in the war years when for the first time the theatre played beyond the Volga. By February 1945 the Front Line "brigade" has given 800,000 shows ranging from opreas and complete plays to puppets and solo recitations. The book closes with a chapter about the regeneration of life and the theatre in places devastated by the Fascist invasion. Tips of spine and corners of dw are scuffed, spine of dw is browned.
