Bergen, Norway: The Bergen Museum, 1896-1899. Hardcover. Very good. Quarto (26 cm), pp. 270 plus supplemental plates. All fourteen parts on Isopoda, bound into a single volume with original paper wrappers. Pages are clean and bright, though some have closed tears and show prior attempts at repair. No jacket. Sars was a Norweigan marine biologist credited with systematic classification of Norweigan crustaceans. Not known as a towering intellect, he nonetheless had an excellent memory and good drawing skills (Norsk biografisk leksikon). This comes from his nine volume study of the subphylum.

Demidoff, who was an Italian prince married to a Russian countess and speculated to be the richest man in the world, undertook the expedition in order to acquire spectacular trophies (photos of which are included in this volume).
