Vladimir Igorevich Yakovlev (1934- 1998) was a Russian artist, in the late 1950's he joined the group of artists called the 'Moscow Non-Conformists'. Almost an outsider artist, he spent his last years in a psychiatric institution where he slowly went blind. The Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow produced this end of career retrospective of his work in 1995. This is one of the only catalogs available on Vladimir Yakovlev's work. Kaoru Yamaguchi (1907-1968) was born in Gunma Prefecture and studied oil painting at Tokyo University of Arts. He then went to Paris and studied there for three years. After returning from Paris, he and his friends formed "Shin-Jidai-Youga-ten", "Jiyu-Bijutsuka-Kyoukai" and "Modern Art Kyoukai". Also he took up teaching at Tokyo University of Arts.
