None of the eyewitnesses is willing to rat on who are the actual killers. Instead, a tacit agreement of silence has been reached in spite of rising pressure from parents and the local police to reveal what they know. The students are divided between their loyalty to their peers and the horror they have seen committed in front of their eyes.

Marie, Michigan and Ontario that among other things tell us that there are three locks, one on the Canadian side and two on the Michigan side.
