Included are copies of the Yale College catalogues listing officers and students for each of the four years that Rexford attended; catalogues for each of the campus literary societies - the Linonian Society, Brothers in Unity, the Calliopean Society, and Psi Upsilon - listing the names of members, past and present; as well as the published catalogues of three of the societies' libraries. An occasional light fox mark, a few instances of pencil marginalia, else quite clean internally. Very good. In a cloth chemise and half morocco and cloth slipcase, spine gilt. Actually printed in Cambridge, Ma., and not recorded in Shaw and Shoemaker. This work, first published in 1788, is largely Chief Justice Robert Yates' account of the 1787 Constitutional Convention. The autobiographical story of a Confederate soldier from an area described as having "Carolina's tallest peaks" on its southeastern horizon. Most names in the story appear to be fictional. Includes his capture at Kennesaw Mountain in June 1864; as a prisoner of war at Camp Douglas, Illinois; his journey home; and how he came to join an infantry company. Yeager (1842-1940) served with the 29th Tennessee Infantry (Confederate) until his capture. After the war he was a lawyer in Tennessee, then a newspaperman and farmer in Johnson County, Texas. Rare. Together with the laws and information pertaining to free grants and home steads; to mining and to the preservation of forests from destruction by fire."

Boston, 1862. 267pp. Original cloth. Front joint splitting, some chipping at spine extremities, front board warped and dampstained affecting top margin of contents throughout, some tanning. A sound copy. Inscribed: "To the Attorney General in the Qeen [sic] v. William Palmer 1856 - from G.A. Somerby, Boston, Mass. U.S." The DNB devotes a long article to the character and celebrated case of William Palmer, the notorious "Rugeley poisoner." Palmer was tried at the Old Bailey on May 14, 1856. The attorney-general in the case was Sir Alexander Cockburn, apparently the recipient of the present volume. The case of William Palmer is cited in the Preface, since it was believed that Palmer used strychnine in murdering at least one of his victims, but the chemists were unable to detect any trace of that poison in the body of the deceased. Modern half calf and marbled boards, leather label. Minor foxing, folding map in first volume neatly repaired on fold. Very good. The second printing, issued the year after the first. This is the first scholarly work on Texas after annexation. The author, a lawyer from Tennessee, came to Texas in 1845, befriended Sam Houston, and served in the Mexican-American War. "In spite of its detractors, Yoakum's history remains a necessary source. Modern historians rally to its support, with reservations. The final pages contain the "Canons for the government of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America, agreed on and ratified in the General Convention of said church, held in the city of Philadelphia, from the 29th day of September to the 16th day of October, 1789." Revised by-laws for the Medical Society of the County of New York, originally bound with STATUTES REGULATING THE PRACTICE OF PHYSIC AND SURGERY IN THE STATE OF NEW-YORK. The New York County Medical Society, which exists to this day, was founded in 1806 to represent Manhattan-based physicians. Scarce, not in Austin.

An attractive souvenir book containing Albertypes of various locales along the Hudson River in the 1880s, including Tarrytown, Peekskill, Nyack, West Point, Poughkeepsie, Iona, and Albany. The album was published by the Wittemann Brothers, who would re-name themselves the Albertype Company in 1890.

Includes brief histories of each of the united states and territories, a list and explanation of stamp duties, postal rates regulations, law maxims, and a list of weights and measures, as well as an extensive gazetteer and directory of Saratoga and Warren counties. The ads, many of them illustrated and printed on yellow paper, cover topics such as the curing of cancers, farm implements, sewing machines, medicinal springs, and book binders.

A scarce Civil War-era set of view cards and descriptions of sights and geographical attractions along the Hudson River from New York to Glen's Falls. Other views include the Palisades from Yonkers, West Point, Hudson, the Catskills, Peekskill, and a folding view of Albany. Each section of descriptive text in the pamphlet volume is accompanied by a corresponding colored view of the scene. Else good. An uncommon New York state pocket map. An inset shows the profile of the "Levels in the Grand Erie Canal," and another shows the course of the Hudson River in detail.
