Description:
Portland, OR: Relay Replay Press, 2011. Wang, Shu-Ju. Oblong 32mo. (16)pp., accordion-fold, with each recto panel expanding in a foldout. One of twenty-six copies, signed by the artist. Wang's book unfolds through layers of memory in a most literal way, containing within its small self a multitude of images and textures to mimic the scrapbook recollections of a human mind. This particular mind is that of Arnie Metz, one of five seniors suffering from memory loss with whom Wang worked after receiving a 2008 Regional Arts and Culture Council Grant. Wang's attention to detail in her artwork here highlights her clear attention to Arnie while she interacted with him. Throughout the pages are Arnie's handwritten notes, drawings, letters, and wedding vows, and photographs supplied by family and friends in the forms of silkscreen prints and Solarplate etchings. The etchings appear on custom papers made by Helen Heibert containing soil from Arnie's farms in South Dakota and on Sauvie Island and water from the… Read More

Description:
NY: Jonathan Cape and Harrison Smith, 1930. Ward, Lynd. Octavo. First edition. This is Ward's second woodcut novel, with the story told exclusively via woodcut illustrations. Through this dramatic and expressive non-verbal style, Ward communicated situations and emotions using nothing more than the woodcut's stark contrast of black and white. Bit of light rubbing along bottom edge, else a fine, bright copy in decorated boards backed with black cloth, and with increasingly uncommon dust jacket, which, but for a touch of toning, is equally fine.

Description:
Cleveland and NY: World Publishing Company, 1967. Octavo. (viii), (194)pp. Inscribed on the half-title by Lynd Ward to Dan Burne Jones, who worked, albeit without public fruition, on a bibliography of Ward's works. Without text, this "story" tells with pictures the tale of a young man trapped in a drab industrial world. Ward's expressive woodcuts are printed in two colors, black to signify the real world, and orange to signify the world of the mind. Mild rubbing corners, else near fine in full clay-colored cloth over boards. In a near fine dust wrapper, scantly abraded.

Description:
Echo Bay, ON; Cresskill, NJ; McLean, VA, 1971. Five handwritten ALs sent by Lynd Ward to an unknown Mr. Fletcher. The first three letters describe a prolonged purchase of the print "Cup of Sky." The last two provide Ward's measured replies to Fletcher's apparent inquiry regarding the possibility of working with him on a bibliography of his work. The correspondence provides an intriguing look at the later years of Ward's career, hinting at his later preference for producing solo prints over books, the overlap between the two media, and the enormity of the task to catalogue the oeuvre. Ward refers specifically to Dan Burne Jones, who would publish a bibliography of Rockwell Kent and had at the time laid claim to cataloguing Ward's work, to the seeming detriment of Fletcher. All letters fine.
