White Rock, British Columbia. Pices Press. 1997. 148 pp. 8 vo. First De Luxe Edition. This is Letter J of 26 lettered copies. Signed by W. Ric Olmsted and Peter Addison. Foreword by Arthur Lingren and also signed by him. A ten page Afterword by Ric Olmsted. This limited edition is printed on fine laid paper. This is a beautiful reprint of the 1907 first edition published by Horace Cox, London. This book is important for many reasons - it was written by a man who processed an abiding interest in fishing as much of the lower province's waters as he was able, and to accurately describe it - It's the first written description of playing and later catching steelhead on the Thompson River and its tributaries - Dr. Lambert's warning of the impending destruction of fish habitat by commercial interests, and his belief that the government should play a role in protecting it. The Afterword by Ric (who, sadly, has passed away), was written from first-hand experience and knowledge, projects this book into the ... Read more

London. Adam and Charles Black. 1956. First Edition. Octavo (8 x 6). xvi, 153 pp. including index. Photo frontispiece of Mr. Skues plus three other plates showing G. E. M. Skues fishing his favorite waters. George Edward MacKenzie Skues was the father of modern nymph fly fishing and he generously shared his knowledge with a bevy of friends - one of which was Baird Foster of New Jersey. For nearly eleven years, until Mr. Skues’s death in 1949, the two men wrote to one another frequently. Pages 118-134 in the book are devoted to some of those letters. In the included three page letter, dated September 1940, Mr. Skues always addressed his correspondence to Baird Foster as "My Dear Foster". In the letter Mr. Skues discusses a fly tying vice Mr. Foster had sent him, the new du Pont nylon leader material and its practicality on English chalk streams, the curtailing of publication of some fly fishing books during the war, and the poor fishing conditions on his beloved waters - excessive weed growth an ... New York. The Derrydale Press. 1938. Octavo (9 x 6). 187 pp. Limited Edition. Book number 572 of 950 copies published. Illustrated by Milton C. Weiler. Illustrated frontispiece. Black and white plates. Mr. Smith always wrote in a cool, take-it-easy style while at the same time expressing exactly the true nature of the outdoor experience: friends and friendships reign over the day. The book is bound in light green cloth with gilt titles on the spine with gilt rules, and a gilt fisherman on the front cover, also framed with gilt rules. There is the armorial book plate of the now dead African big game hunter, Steve d’Arc, affixed to the front paste down; a little offsetting from the book plate, otherwise this is a very good book. .
