This work includes 400 of the best examples of surviving frontier photographs taken beginning in 1853 over a forty-year period. The images capture the progress and moods of Utah Territory as the temple progressively rose from the valley floor and other structures gradually emerged. This is the finest work on the Territorial photographers of Utah.

Nicer than usually seen copy of this fictionalized biography of one of Brigham Young's plural wives, by the best-selling author and screenwriter, Irving Wallace. This is one of his earliest works, and his second "nonfiction" work. "The Twenty-seventh Wife is the vivid and fascinating story of one of the strangest and most scandalous events in America's history - Ann Eliza Young's divorce from her husband, Brigham Young, the Mormon Prophet who brought his people across the deserts to Salt Lake City and raised his church to great power and wealth. Very good. A volume of poetry from the editorial writer. This work was printed in edition of 1000 copies, this being copy "66A". Inscribed on the limitation page by the author: To Dr. and Mrs. J.B Bearnson from the Warrums. Noble Warrum." Julius Bearnson was a professor of Economics at the University of Utah. Margaret "Mrs." Bearnson also taught at the University of Utah, and was a Utah state legislator.

San Francisco, 1865. Albumen stereoview [8 cm x 15 cm] on an orange 'Central Pacific Railroad' mount [8.5 cm x 17 cm]. Nice contrasts with gentle wear to extremities of mount. View of a locomotive pulling cars through Bloomers Cut. Bloomers Cut was the first major obstacle that faced the Central Pacific railroad during the western end construction of the Trans Continental railroad. While the mount identifies this as a Watkins view, it is actually an Afred A. Hart view, printed by Watkins. Alfred A. Hart (1816-1908), was the principal photographer for the Central Pacific Railroad during the construction of the Overland Route. He photographed the construction from 1865 to 1869 when the last spike was driven by Leland Stanford at Promontory, Utah on May 10, 1869. In a plain orange jacket that has a few nicks to the corners and spine and some splitting at the folds. Very good/Near fine. Three separate documents that show the Spanish plans for the settlement and Christianization of Alta California in the eighteenth century. Nicely produced work from the Grabhorn Press. Fold out map frontispiece present. This book was printed in an edition of 550 unnumbered copies. Grabhorn 203.

Image of the Temple from the southeast by this northwest photographer, who was based in Spokane and traveled throughout the west beginning in 1900.

Singapore: The Southeast Asia Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1972. 20pp. Octavo [23.5 cm] Lavender stapled wrappers with title printed in gold on the front cover. Near fine. Minor rubbing to the extremities. Profusely illustrated (photos and illustrations) mission newsletter containing news of new and faith-promoting stories by the missionaries and the President of the Southeast Asia Mission. Echo Asia ran for three years (December, 1969 - September, 1972) and was issued monthly. Individual issues are rare.

Wegemann (1879-1952) started working for the United States Geological Survey (USGS) as a geologist in 1907. He eventually worked for the National Park Service. While working for the USGS he made important scientific discoveries and contributed to geological sciences by authoring various papers, pamphlets, and other types of publications. Utah's Alta Ski Area is often referred to as a "skier's mountain." It's one out of three ski-only areas in the United States, and for the past eight decades, it's provided a unique and authentic skiing experience. Generations of skiers have been coming to this ski haven nestled atop Little Cottonwood Canyon within the Wasatch Mountain Range for its quality deep powder, beautiful mountain scenery, and unfailing snowfall year after year. It was officially designated a ski area in 1938 with the construction of the second ski chairlift in the western U.S. (a couple years after Idaho's installation in Sun Valley).

This edition was printed in a limitation of 400 signed and numbered copies, this is number 111. Illustrated with 88 full-page color plates. The Wasp was founded as a weekly satire magazine in San Francisco in 1876 by the Bohemian expatriate Francis Korbel and his two brothers. The Korbels developed a successful San Francisco business manufacturing redwood cigar boxes that required lithographic labels, which they also produced. Hence, shortly after it began publication, The Wasp began to feature colored political cartoons. By the spring of 1877, it had developed its hallmark folio-size format with a pair of full-page cartoons on the front and rear covers and a double-page graphic as a centerfold. It appears to have pioneered the mass production of large-scale colored cartoons in the United States.

Denver: The Smith-Brooks Printing Company, 1946. [42pp] Oblong quarto [25 cm x 30.5 cm] Gray printed wrappers with a photograph of the Upper Colorado on the front panel. Better than very good. 20 tinted plates [16.5 cm x 20] on white leaves with the facing page prints a paragraph description of the view. All images are sights that one could see riding the D&RGW through Colorado. Double-page plate at the center [21 cm 51 cm] 'Colorado's Highest Mountains.' Double-page pictorial map at the end.

Salt Lake City: Utah Department of Publicity and Industrial Development, 1950. Single sheet [44 cm x 40 cm] / [17" x 15 3/4"] printed on both sides and folding to pamphlet size [22 cm x 10 cm] / [8 1/2" x 4"] folds as issued. Near fine. Item for the prospective visitor to Utah. One side prints a pictorial map [38 cm x 30 cm] / [15" x 12"] with 29 locations marked that are described at the right margin and at the foot. Also printed is a mileage log of main highways through the state. Reverse prints a brief description of the state with illustrations. "It is a combination of the past, the present and the future which makes Utah a state of absorbing interest for the tourist and the traveler. Minor sunning to volume one's jacket at the head and spine. Otherwise both volumes are better than very good. Excellent association copy. Warmly inscribed by Dale Morgan to Carl Wheat: "To Carl Wheat who as friend and friend gave devotedly of himself that this book might come to be. Dale L. Morgan - George P. Hammond. July 8, 1963." A descriptive catalog of manuscripts relating to the Pacific region and Western America (except California) organized by location. A second volume (not Morgan's work) was published by Hammond in 1972 which addressed the holdings dealing with Mexico and Central America. Saunders 41.

Rare printing of White's discourse on setting young men on a course towards God and good citizenship. We locate no copies in OCLC or in any reference known to us. "Mr. White is qualified by his own early experiences, to have perpetual interest in boys, especially those likely to fall under adverse influences. His constant observations give an increasing number of personal incidents, continued thought deepens his conviction that there is need of a general awakening of interest in boys, in the enforcement of laws against those who would lead them into dissipation, provide for more loving attention in the house, and more adequate training for citizenship." - from the Introduction by Lyman R. Blue Highway Promotions, 1986. Pictorial map [48 cm x 60 cm] / [19" x 23.5"] printed in color. About very good. Light wear with a few tape remnants to extremities. Map is bright. Chamber of Commerce type map, with business located and historical locations. A few typed captions of historical content. "In late July, 1864, four gentlemen from Georgia decided to make one last, desperate attempt to find gold in the foothills of the Continental Divide near Prickly Pear Creek. Their efforts were successful and the 'Last Chance' camp was established. By early fall it was decided that 'Last Chance' was not a suitable name for the rapidly growing camp. After much debate and many possibilities, 'Helena' was decided upon - named after the hometown of one of the organizers, John Sommerville from Helena, Minnesota.
