Description:
First edition. With a photogravure frontispiece and 12 lovely tissue-guarded plates by E. C. Peixotto. Publisher's original dark green cloth beautifully decorated on the upper cover and spine after designs by Margaret Armstrong. The lettering on both the cover and spine is in gilt. A handsome and bright copy of this lovely book, internally very fresh and clean. The pages are uncut pages to side and bottom and gilded to top.The Armstrong binding is fresh, vivid and clean with minor evidence of age damage to the top and bottom of spine. A BEAUTIFUL ILLUSTRATED ITALIAN TRAVEL BOOK by a Pulitzer Prize winning author. Though the less famous then her collaboration with Maxfield Parrish this collection of nine essays is none-the-less appealing. Mr. Peixotto's art was far more familiar then his name, he had been a extremely successful illustrator of magazines and periodicals. Scribner's sent the young artist to Italy with Mrs. Wharton and then kept him at various points of the Mediterranean for over a year.

The gardens of Blandings Castle are that original garden from which we are all exiled. All those who know them long to return." ―Evelyn Waugh When Lord Tilbury receives a letter from Galahad Threepwood stating he will no longer be publishing his memoir, he decides to travel to Blandings Castle and steal the manuscript. But he isn't the only one after the memoir. Sir Gregory Parsloe-Parsloe and Lady Constance Keeble are also trying to lay their hands on it to prevent Ronnie Fish and Sue Brown from getting married. Hugh Carmody loved Millicent, Lord Emsworth niece, but he was very good friends with Sue Brown - an attachment which Millicent, perhaps, could hardly be expected to enthuse over. Ronnie Fish loved Sue, and entertained feelings of unrestrained ferocity towards Pilbeam, a blister of the first water, who was pestering her with flowers. When Millicent and Ronnie heard that Hugo and Sue were having dinner on the quiet, there was trouble; and when Ronnie, descending upon Mario's, found not Hugo but the execrable Pilbeam, summer lightning flashed in truth. How Lord Emsworth's pig was stolen, how Sir Gregory Parsloe-Parsloe was accused of the crime, how Mr… Read More
