Walter lost his leg just before college graduation, then set out from Seattle to Honolulu and on around the world, visiting the Fiji Islands, Australia, Egypt, and North Africa. The first half of the book describes his earlier travels as he worked his way across Mexico, Japan, China, etc. Contains much about coping with his handicap.
