He wrote both of these in collaboration with the Institute of Pacific Relations, a non profit founded in 1925, that was one of the first institutions that promoted educational material about people of the Pacific regions. Original boards with gilt title. 24 full page illustrations with smaller images throughout. One of the most influential and respected social reformers of the 20th century, Lillian Wald was a tireless and accomplished humanitarian. Wald founded Henry Street Settlement in 1893 after witnessing the poverty and hardship endured by immigrants on the Lower East Side. She and her colleagues offered health care to area residents in their homes, in addition to social services and instruction in everything from the English language to music. Very good.

Measures 5.5" x 8.25". Signature by Alice Walker on title page, dated "1/28/96". The first African American woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for fiction, Walker's fourth book and first collection of short stories is about Black women throughout the US from all different backgrounds, classes and social circumstances, united by their vulnerability to life. The book served as a basis for her term "womanism," which referred to activism for women of color. Ex US Army Library Copy with stamp on pastedown and tape on spine. Dust Jacket Cover is clean. Overall, in very good condition.

In light blue tapebound wrappers. The earliest state of this novel, with hand written page numbers & touches of white out in places. There are supplemental pages noted as 216A & 216B. Meridian is set during the Civil Rights Movement at the critical juncture where for some activists, it intensified and became a violent struggle. Very Good.

Top-fold Original Mickey Mouse Christmas card with window cut-out to front panel. U.S.A., (n. d.), circa 1920s, showing Mickey Mouse with the elongated nose of the early designs. On the front, Mickey stands on stage brandishing a note that reads "To You". Showing Today" reads the sign under the stage. Minnie Mouse claps her hands from a theater box. The card says "Wishes fro a Reel Merry Christmas!" Mistletoe adorn the top corners and Minnie's theater box. The card is accented by cheerful greens, reds, and yellows. When unfolded, the card reveals an illustrated projector and film reel showing Mickey Mouse writing and mailing a Christmas card. The interior reads "And Here's Hoping Your New Year Will Be A Thriller!". The entire card can then be unfolded again to show the illustrations on front and the blank verso. In this "concealed" style, an image is painted on to the 'stepped' incline of the pages that disappears when it's flat; the fore-edge painting is only revealed when the pages are fanned. Light wear, some minor separation at joints. Contemporary ownership signature dated November 4th 1862 on front free endpaper. In very good condition.

New York, The Limited Editions Club. 1948. Hardcover slipcase. 9" x 13". This book was first published in 1653 by Richard Marriot in London. Walton continued to add to it for a quarter of a century. This is a classic work on art and joys of fishing in prose and verse, prominently collected amidst anglers and fishing enthusiasts. Complete with multiple black and white illustrations throughout of various types of fish, illustrations of men fishing by a lake, vying for women's attention, landscapes, amongst a variety of other images. Very good condition, some light staining to some pages, but overall, pages, text, and images are crisp and clear with minor wear and fading to edges of slipcase.

Lot of 2 extra large scale silver gelatin photos of African-American soldiers and other GI's in Korean War. Photos are huge in size and for display: They show the action in war. Pasted on original photographer board. Photos each measure 16.5" x 20.25". One labeled "First Aid' in the bottom right corner. On June 27, 1950, U.S. President Harry Truman announced support for South Korea in repelling an invasion by North Korea, entering the U.S. in the Korean War. One photo shows a very young wounded American soldier on a gurney being aided by a group of other American soldiers. The second image shows both American and Korean soldiers gathered outside with an array of supplies, tarps, and canisters. Two men with exhausted expressions stare directly at the camera while the rest of the troops are busy in action preparing for the next battle. Enlarged with new information derived from the surviving soldiers present at the celebration on the 17th June last, and notes. In this short account of the Battle of Bunker hill, Swett relies on the testimonies of survivors to reconstruct not only the events of the day , but also the sights, sound, and smells of battle - "The whole town was combustible. The flames ascended to heaven on the lofty spire of the church and resembled the eruptions of vast volcano in solemn grandeur and sublimity. Removed from a book of pamphlets. Arguably the first issue published with a folded plan of the battle. Is missing the often-appended 30 page "Notes section." Title page partially separated but overall in very good condition.

American artist and leading figure in the visual art movement known as pop art. Unique gelatin silver print taken by Andy Warhol at Jerry Hall's birthday party July 3, 1980 at Studio 54. In the photograph Hall is passing slices of birthday cake over her shoulder to Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards, who is handing them out to guests while Whitney Tower, Jr., heir to the Vanderbilt fortune clowns around with a fork. Warhol was known to frequent Studio 54 with his camera, a quiet and meticulous observer of the social scene, searching out subject matter for his art work. Warhol did silk screen portraits of Hall and Jagger. This photograph measures 8" x 10". Executed in 1980 and dated July 3, 1980 on verso. The early sections deal with his upbringing as a slave and his efforts to get an education. The second reads, "The Judiciary committee approves Nixon impeachment", postmarked Jul 29 1974. The third reads, "Second impeachment article voted", postmarked Jul 29, 1974. The fourth reads, "Nixon resigns", postmarked Aug 8 1974. All are in excellent condition.
