A street by street, sight by sight account of the city in the late 19th century and its history since Roman times. The First two volumes were written and published by Thornbury in 1872. Following Thornbury's death from exhaustion, the subsequent four volumes were completed by Edward Walford. Very good selection of historical images, including portraits and historical scenes, elements of Norden's maps and terrific contemporary engravings of London streets and architecture. Vol 2 cover damaged.
Occasional marking, bumps and small tears to covers and spine. Rubbing to edges. Tanning to pages. Owners mark to frontispiece of each volume. Contents otherwise clean and bindings tight.
