London: Etchells & Macdonald, 1926.. Quarto. Cream linen spine and orange cloth over boards, stamped in gilt. Faint dust soiling to spine, trace of normal offsetting to endsheet gutters, otherwise a fine copy in lightly worn slipcase. First edition. Introduction and captions to the illustrations by Bernard Windeler. Illustrated with twenty-three original copper engravings by Wadsworth, printed from the plates, both full-page and vignette, and some delicately handcolored. One of four hundred and fifty copies. Wadsworth was, of course, one of the original signators to the Vorticist manifesto and regrettably that tradition shows through only occasionally and briefly in these draftsman-like renderings. Of particular interest to this cataloguer is the probability that the author of the captions is the same B.C. Windeler whose ELIMUS, with illustrations by Dorothy Shakespear, was published in Pound's INQUEST series three years earlier.

First separate edition, limited to 225 copies printed in Kennerley type on Curtis papers, published in Graywolf Pamphlet Series I. Sixty copies were to be signed by the author. This copy is not numbered but is signed by the author on the title-page.

Small shallow discoloration on title at spine, otherwise very good. A concealed Edinburgh printing of this takedown of Walpole based on personal excesses. Based on the ornaments, ESTC and Foxon ascribe it to Robert Fleming. The first printing appeared in 1730, followed by a concealed Dublin printing and, in 1733, by a second London edition. ESTC N8124. New York: American Ambulance, [post Sept. 1914].. Printed broadside on onionskin paper, 28 x 21.5 cm, printed on recto only. Horizontal fold and a bit of tanning, some nicks and creases along the blank lower edge, but a very good example of a fragile item. A fine ephemeron associated with the raising and organization of US volunteers to serve as ambulance drivers attached to the American Ambulance Hospital in France and elsewhere at the Front during the Great War. The closely set text details qualifications, terms and nature of service, major and incidental expenses, equipment and personal gear to be either provided or brought by the volunteer, passports, application procedures, etc. The American Ambulance Hospital expanded to the Lycée Pasteur in Neuilly to serve allied soldiers beginning in September 1914. Until the US entered the war in 1917, there was a regular flow of volunteers to serve in the Ambulance, including several individuals who would gain later prominence, among them E.E. Tan cloth, gilt lettered spine label, original wrapper bound in. Illustrations in text (including colored illustrations), color frontis. Folding table. Cloth a trifle hand-soiled, internally fine. First edition, the preferred issue with the color pictorial vignette mounted on the front wrapper and without the wrapper designation as the first volume of a serial publication in sequence of the Museum's ARCHIVES. An important chapter in the history of ethno- mycology, being a summary and analysis of the authors' findings concerning the use of the psilocybin mushroom as a healing agent and religious sacrament by curandera María Sabina Magdalena García among the indigenous peoples of Oaxaca. Herein appear Wasson's controversial photographs of Maria Sabina and her hosting of a velada.

Staple absent from extreme upper left corner, with slight rust staining left behind, otherwise very good. A studio PR firm's promotional release for John Waters's first film to earn an 'R' rating rather than an 'X'. As usual, Waters worked as both writer and director, and cast Divine and Tab Hunter in the lead roles. The promo includes a two page (plus four lines) synopsis, a 4 page biographical treatment about Waters and discussion of his films, and a cast list and production info. Uncommon.

One of 2000 numbered copies in this format, signed by the author, both on the bound-in limitation page, and on the laid-in publisher's attestation of authenticity.

Weinstock (1905 - 1971) was a prolific translator, biographer and critic in the field of music, and beginning in 1943 for many years worked as music editor for Alfred A. Knopf. He had briefly attended the University of Chicago, but left to open his own short-lived bookshop at a point roughly coinciding with his publication of a collection of prose pieces (1925), and this privately published poem, dated the following year. Old folds, a 9.5 x 3.5 cm portion of the blank inner margin of the second item neatly cut away, 18 lines of contemporary manuscript in blank area of p.4 of the second item, some tanning to folds, second item largely separated along spine fold, but very good. Two primary documents relating to this case, docketed "To be heard at the bar of the House of Lords, on Wednesday the 2d day of March 1742-3." Weir was a grain merchant in Waygateshaw, Lanark, during "the years 1739 and 1740 [when] there was a great Scarcity next to Famine in Scotland...." As a consequence of people's suspicions that he was manipulating the price of grain while retaining significant stores of it, "several of the poorer Inhabitants in and about the Burgh of Hamilton..." confronted him with requests for supplies at more moderate prices. At the time, Wells was President of Section L - Educational Science. He delivered his address at the University of Nottingham on September 2nd, 1937. London: Heinemann, [1969, revised to 1970].. [5],120 leaves with occasional variations in numbering. Mixed original, carbon and spirit duplicated typescript, with occasional inserts of clipped text. Very good in line with usage. The somewhat revised setting typescript for Hayman's book on Wesker and his works, a significant portion of which is comprised of two extended interview with Wesker. Quotations from the texts selected from his various plays are inserted via clippings from their published form. In addition to typesetter's and editorial annotations, there are scattered corrections throughout, a few manuscript insertions and occasional text marked for deletion.

Three quarter morocco and cloth, t.e.g., others untrimmed. Extremities quite worn, but sound, some tanning to text block, a good copy. Copy #4 of one hundred numbered copies printed on Dutch handmade paper, in addition to 500 ordinary copies on Antique paper. Formerly novelist Nathanael West's copy with his pictorial bookplate. The bookplate was designed for West by his long-time friend and future brother-in-law, satirist S.J. Perelman, while they were students. It features an image of a bearded man weeping and clutching the head of a donkey. Above the image appears West's birth name: "Nath. v. Wallenstein Weinstein," and below it the legend: "Lieb' ich wass andere lieben?," which is customarily translated "Do I love what others love?" [London, ca 1957].. 10 leaves. Clean carbon typescript, quarto, on rectos only, stapled at upper left. Accompanied by a folio galley sheet, on proofing paper, with a handful of corrections. An extended review of the COMPLETE WORKS OF NATHANAEL WEST, published in the UK in 1957. The format of the galley suggests it may have been contributed to the TLS, but Walsdorf & Allen do not record the periodical appearance of any essay on West by Symons, so at first glance it is difficult to be certain. White records the essay's appearance in book form in CRITICAL OCCASIONS (1966), and Walsdorf & Allen do record the 1994 appearance of an essay by Symons in CRITICAL ESSAYS ON NATHANAEL WEST (1994, their E71). There are a number of small ink tinkerings and corrections in Symons' hand on the galley.

London: Methuen, [1920].. 12mo. Cloth. Heavily worn and shaken, with surface chips from spine and scattered incompletely erased doodles and drawings in the text. First edition. A very interesting association copy, formerly the property of American novelist Nathanael West. West's ownership inscription appears at the top edge of the front free endsheet: "N. West 1926 Paris." West visited Paris shortly after his hair's- breadth graduation from Brown University and stayed for only a few months (sources vary). While there he pursued the literary life, adopted his name change from Weinstein to West, and began work on what was to eventually appear as THE DREAM LIFE OF BALSO SNELL. Page 61 has some heavy pencil underscores and marginal highlighting, and page 70 has three lines of barely visible, partially erased text in pencil. Contemporary three quarter calf, neatly rebacked in cloth with the original backstrip laid down and new endsheets, a.e.g. Extremities somewhat shelf- worn, occasional typical slight tanning and some isolated foxing to some of the text leaves, a small spot to half-title and first guard has left a faint shadow at the lower corner of the pictorial title, slight cracking at gutter between a few plates and their text leaves, otherwise a very good copy. First edition of this ambitious (and popular) work, featuring color-printed plates reproducing examples from some twenty-five manuscripts from the BM, Oxford, Trinity and other locations.
