Chadwick's "Dramatic Overture" was completed on September 30, 1887 and given its premiere on December 23rd and 24th of that year in Boston's Music Hall, with the Boston Symphony Orchestra conducted by Wilhelm Gericke. The score offered here is a digitally enhanced reissue of the one published in 1891 by Arthur P. Schmidt of Boston. Unlike so many of the on-demand scores now available, this one comes with all the pages and the images have been thoroughly checked to make sure it is readable, is beautifully printed on off-white stock with a quality cover.

Description:
This is a new, digitally enhanced reprint of the score originally published in 1896 by Arthur P. Schmidt. Chadwick's Symphony No.3 was composed two years earlier and was awarded the first prize in the competition held by the National Conservatory in New York. The judge was the visiting Antonin Dvorak. The work received high praises in the composer's lifetime but fell out of fashion in the 1930s. Only in recent years has it experienced a revival of interest.

Description:
This is a new, digitally enhanced reprint of the score originally published in 1888 by Arthur P. Schmidt. The first American symphony published in full score on a non-subscription basis, Chadwick's Symphony No.2 is a romantic work that nevertheless features the uniquely American sound typical of this composer. This very American sounding symphony was completed nearly a full decade before Antonin Dvorak's much more famous Symphony No.9, Op.95 'From the New World'. Chadwick's 35-minute symphony is also scored for an orchestra of a size familiar to the Czech master. It was first performed in Boston on December 10, 1886 by the Boston Symphony Orchestra conducted by the composer.
I. Andante non troppo; Allegro con brio
II. Allegretto scherzando
III. Largo e maestoso
IV. Allegro molto animato

Description:
Chadwick's "Symphonic Ballad" is based upon Robert Burns' poem of the same title. Composed in 1915 at a time when the US was on the brink of World War I, the work was viewed as an affirmation of America's Anglo-Celtic heritage. The present score is a carefully restored reissue of the first edition issued by the Boston Music Co in 1917. Unlike so many of the on-demand scores now available, this one comes with all the pages and the images have been thoroughly checked to make sure it is readable, is beautifully printed on off-white stock with a quality cover.
