Presentation inscription is seen on the title page of Volume I in which the books are presented to Yves Henry Buhler from Hamilton Fish Potter in 1924. Leather over spine and corners, with pebbled cloth over boards. University emblem is gilt stamped on top covers. Raised spine band creating six compartments. Gilt stamped lettering and blind stamped decoration. All edges are gilded. Marbled end leaves. Covers are scuffed, rubbed and worn, though lettering remains good. Joints and hinges with small cracks though both volumes remain tight with no looseness of covers. Several leaves near center of Volume II show creases and tears along upper fore edge, though none affecting text or images. General light wear. Dust jacket remains bright and clean, though shows slight edge wear along the upper edge, mostly over bottom cover. Jacket is now in a clear Brodart protective sleeve.

The lower outside bottom corner is very lightly bumped with a slight crease to the very corner of the last several leaves. Volume is otherwise Fine, being tight, bright, and clean. Dust jacket shows a very small tear and some creases along its upper edges. Jacket is bright and clean, and is now in a clear protective sleeve.

Ink stamp of a masonic lodge is seen on the upper edge of the text blocks. Private library book plate on front paste downs. Text blocks remain tight and intact. Numerous plates are good, though there is some offsetting to the adjacent pages. Occasional light foxing, smudges, and darkening on edges, though contents are generally very clean. New York: Clark & Maynard, 1874. First Edition . Full Leather. Good+/No Dust Jacket. Royal 8vo. 248 pages, plus 26 tissue guarded plates. Full leather with raised spine bands and gilt lettering and decoration. All edges of text block are gilded. Marbled end leaves. Covers show rubbing along joints of covers at spine and there is a one inch crack along the top joint and crown. Rubbing along all edges of covers. Gilt remains bright. Volume remains tight with nearly fine contents and covers are clean and very presentable. Lovely copy of this scarce first edition volume, though with some fairly minor flaws.
