Description:
Ghent: 19 juin 1843 et jours suivants. 8vo, contemporary blue paper covers; handwritten spine label. (2), ii, 119, (1) pages, interleaved with blank pages which have been ruled by hand and carefully annotated giving the price realized and buyer of each lot; 3325 + 168 lots. Paper spine worn, with signatures starting to separate; otherwise very good. A very rare catalogue, perhaps the first copy we have handled. The cataloguer is not identified. The collection is massive and wide-ranging—after nearly 500 lots of ancient Roman coins, the catalogue is devoted to a comprehensive collection of primarily European coins of the early modern era, with some medieval content as well. This is most likely the auctioneer's copy, as the buyers are carefully recorded and the interleaving was obviously prepared in advance of the sale. Most interesting.
