An interesting transforming pictures book that flaps back from center. The life story of a princess growing into a queen. Each verse is titles and the verse is relevant to the two image illustrations. The titles are: The Royal Family Which she likes to do The Deer know her a driving lesson a ride Not a princess anymore Inaugurated as queen The book measures 7 1/2" x 6 1/2".

A textbook, only sold by subscription, that seeks to teach the reader arithmetic and world geography by using verse, often rhyming verse, to help the reader memorize the important terms and formulas. For example, in describing the divisions of land, the following poem is used: "Of land, and its divisions, read the stories; Peninsulas, Continents, Islands, Promontories, And Isthmuses and Capes, and Mountains high, Volcanoes, Shores and Deserts, wet and dry." It was issued under the auspices of the New York City Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Designed at the New York School of Applied Design for Women Coated stock die-cut in the shape of a shields, each presenting one calendar month accompanied by a chromolithograph depiction of the seal of one of the thirteen original states. The states appear in the order they ratified the Constitution beginning with the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantation on the title page. The reverse includes a table of the Revolutionary War patriotic holidays--each date is highlighted in red on the monthly calendars. they include the Battle of Cowpens,Fort Moultrie, Battle of King's Mountain, Surrender of Lord Cornwallis, the Battle of Trenton and many others. In 1851 Blairsville Female Seminary was founded by Presbyterian paster George Hill. The Seminary started out in a single building and eventually became a chartered college in 1893. This book is the history of the school and its mission to educate young women. The book is divided into several sections entitled, "History of the Blairsville Ladies' Seminary', 'History of the Seminary from 1876 to 1881', 'History of the Seminary from 1881 to 1886', 'History of the Seminary from 1886 to 1891', 'History of the Seminary from 1891 to 1896', and 'History of the College from 1896 to 1901". Each section is written by a class historian, and these booklets were presumably prepared for the alumnae reunions. Social Solutions, edited by Edward Howland, sought to publish in English Jean-Baptiste André Godin's "Solutions sociales" (1871), which advocated for a radical shift towards better conditions and pay for workers. Translated by Marie Howland, it was divided into twelve semi-monthly numbers. The present example, No. 6, features six additional pieces discussing organized labor by Mrs. Imogene Fales, W.H. Holford, Edward Owen Greening, and Will D. Southworth. Two are published anonymously. Content includes: Foolish Resistance, The People's Co-operative Supply Association, Social Solutions - Dwellings and more. 8vo (7.25" by 4.75"), pp. [2], 211, [3], in original printed wrappers. England, 1947. A humorous sketch book and friendship album owned by Madgie Varney, given to her by Bob (Robert) Varney in 1908. The album has over 65 original art work, with 3 photographs, and two music scores. Approximately 10 pieces are done either by Madgie or R M Varney. The majority of the pieces are humorous in tone, for example a drawing of two large leaves hanging on a clothes line with the caption, "First Washing Day". Some of the artwork has been pasted in, while others were drawn directly on the page. A variety of mediums were used, such as pencil, ink, and watercolor. The majority of the pieces were drawn between 1908-1910s, however there are some as late as the 1940s. There are two images from the Disney film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Set of five (4) 19th C German chromolithograph wine prints by Hermann Vogel (1856-1918) - They include Champagner, Chianti, Malaga, Rheingold and Tokayer . From a series called 'Funf Wein-Bilder ' published by Christian Stoll, Plauen i./V.. Germany, 1888/1889. Signed in plate: Hermann Vogel, H. Vogel, H.V. Rich elaborate designs with bacchanalian characteristics. Grapes, veins, whimsy, Romanticism with touches of Art Nouveau. Gilt border design and decoration 11.75" by 6.75" Vogel was a famous illustrator/artist of German birth, French citizenship, known for his fairy tale and children's illustrations incl. Grimm volumes. Success came as a result of a close collaboration with the Munich publishing house Braun & Schneider, who published many of his works in the " Fliegende Blatter " and "Munich in Pictures'.

A charming and beautifully illustrated Raphael Tuck book for children, written by Edric Vredenburg. Bucolic scenes of life on a farm populate the pages, focusing particularly on the myriad of pets and animals who play with the children who live there. 8vo (8" by 5.75"), pp. [12] with full-page chromolithographed illustrations, bound in original quarter cloth with illustrated boards. 5 copies on OCLC (Feb. 2022).

1910. Fine.. Two photographs notable for their unusually tall rectangular shape. The subjects are a young woman named Earla Viola Steade Rowley and her mother. Each measures roughly 14.25" by 4", and details to the images have been added with watercolor and light pencil. They are signed in pencil by Vreeland (i.e. Rosa Vreeland?) under the image and the subjects are labeled in pencil on the verso. Earla Viola Steade Rowley (1887-1966) married Arthur Merriam Rowley (b.1883) in 1911. Arthur was a descendant of the founders of G. and C. Merriam, publishers of Webster's Dictionary. These photos were most likely taken not long after the marriage took place. Earla was affectionately referred to as "Gogo
