Chicago: Charles H. Kerr and Company, 1901. First edition. Twelvemo. Publisher's decorative cloth; 199 pp.; photographic frontispiece of the author. With the stamp of 'Wm Bonstein's Library of Science and Socialism' to the endpapers. William Bonstein appears to have been an unimportant Socialist Labor Party candidate in Washington state during the 1904 election. The author was a Belgian statesman and democratic socialist and in this book argues for collectivization as a core attribute of socialist evolution. Cheap paper browning; rear board slightly soiled, but easily a Very Good+ copy. Uncommon in the first edition.

[London]: Villiers Publications Ltd, 1960. First edition. Octavo. Blue cloth with gilt spine; 188 pp.; dust jacket. INSCRIBED on the half-title from Varney to proletarian novelist, Benjamin Appel. Varney was a pro-Communist poet and professor at NYU. Although mostly forgotten today, he published numerous volumes of proletarian verse and was extolled by poets such as Robinson Jeffers and Wallace Stevens. Blue cloth has bleached spotting, especially egregious along the spine, with very slight wear to board edges; in an unclipped dust jacket, which is slightly chipped at spine ends with a vertical crease to front panel. Good+ overall. A nice association copy.

Maxwell appears to have been admitted in 1917. Provides an overview of the first 50 years of history of this Philadelphia-based Lodge. Also includes the program for the anniversary party in threadbound wrappers and a booklet for Quaker City Lodge No. 724. The book is in Very Good condition with light rubbing to board edges; corner bumped; foxing to endpapers. We find no other copies offered in the trade (2015).
