A collection of some of the most popular recipes from the radio show, "Housekeeper's Chat," a USDA program that ran from October 1926, through June, 1927. Some light soiling throughout, but still generally very good. In publisher's printed green wrappers. [Not in Cagle].

London: William H. Ainsworth, Old Bond-Street, 1827. Octavo, xl, 498 pages. Advertisements. With an engraved frontispiece portrait of the author, and nine plates illustrating bills of fare. Eighth Edition, greatly enlarged. Perhaps the most extravagant work on French cookery published in England up to that time, first issued in 1813. This eighth edition was issued with a much abbreviated title, describing the author more than the contents, and, I believe, it is this title and edition which was used as the source for the First American edition of the work, issued in Philadelphia by Carey and Lea (see Lowenstein 109). Internally tight and clean. Evidence of two previous owners to several pages. The earliest, inks a name and "___ House, 1827" to the first page of the index and once or twice elsewhere. The next owner, "George Hussey" inks his name to the title page, and then via stamp to a preliminary blank. Some internal light staining. Twelfth edition, corrected and enlarged. Perhaps the most extravagant work on French cookery published in England up to that time, first issued in 1813. A particularly handsome copy, in publisher's original patterned green cloth with gilt-titled spine. Some internal light soiling and foxing, otherwise near fine. New York: Tea & Coffee Journal, 1935. Two volumes, quartos, xvi, 559 pages, & viii, 568 pages, thoroughly illustrated. FIRST EDITION. The definitive study of tea. The finest copy we have seen of this monumental work on the history, agriculture, and trade of tea. Slight spotting to top edge of text block on both volumes, as is usually seen (tea stains?), otherwise fine and bright in publisher's green buckram bindings with gilt lettering. In near fine cream and green dust jackets, and very scarce thus.

New York: The Tea & Coffee Trade Journal Company, 1935. Small stout quarto, 832 pages, with more than 800 illustrations, maps and diagrams, some in full color. Second, edition, revised. At the time of the book's original publication in 1922, The New York Times called it "without a doubt the most comprehensive and authoritative work on the subject that has been published in any language" (New York Times, December 3, 1922). A fine copy in brown cloth, in a near fine dust jacket, and scarce thus.

Boston: Little, Brown, and Company, 1907. Octavo (19 x 13 cm.), 215 pages. Illustrated with halftones throughout. Top edge gilt. FIRST EDITION. An overview of the physical elements of the garden, including summer houses, pergolas, trellises, bowers, sun dials, gazing globes, bird houses, bee skeps, fountains, walls, terraces, etc. Underwood was a respected nature photographer, and son of William Underwood of the eponymous canned food company. Frontispiece tissue guard lightly foxed. In attractive publisher's decorated green cloth, gilt-titled and decorated with an image of a pergola and fountain, in white and green. Overall very good.

A product cookbook for this Pacific Northwest commercial bakery. Includes an introduction titled "Concerning the Earl of Sandwich" and sixty-six recipes for sandwiches and canapés (here spelled "canapis"). Some age-toning and wear to corners of illustrated wrapper. Very good. [OCLC locates two copies].

A clean, bright copy in publishers black cloth, gilt-titled; in a very good dust jacket, with just a bit of sun fading to spine.

A collection of recipes in two volumes collected in fourteen sections, most likely issued individually: Sandwiches, Salads, Breads, Deserts, Cakes, Cookies & Frostings, Soups, Meat & Poultry, Meat Extensions, Meatless and Fish Recipes, Meat Substitutes, Dressings, Relishes and Sauces, Vegetables. Recipes appear to be assembled for a specific course as each section contains a unique identification code, most likely a course number. Recipes are large-scale, serving between twenty-five and fifty-five, and contain remarks on garnishing, possible variations, cost, and size of serving (specifically which size ladle/dipper to use) in addition to the ingredient list and instructions. New York State College of Home Economics had its early beginnings in 1900 when Martha Van Rensselaer arrived at Cornell to organize a reading course for farmers' wives and evolved into a fully accredited program of home economics. Vienna: Martin Gerlach, 1899. Oblong portfolio, lettered boards and cloth spine, ties. The portfolio contains fifty-one photographic plates on thick card stock of the interiors of the Rathauskeller, decorated by Lefler and Urban, assisted by Karl Wilda, Alexander Goltz, Hugo Darnaut and others. Lacking the accompanying booklet. The booklet would contain the text and fifteen chromolithograph plates, and frankly the most visually exciting part of the work. The restaurants, wine cellar, bar, and halls were located beneath Vienna's City Hall, and was the most significant project awarded by the Viennese government to an architect at the turn of the century. Huge murals by Lefler in the style of his and Urban's medieval and historical book illustrations provided the overall decorative scheme which included the furniture and architectural elements.
